Appropriate or not?

Should the POTUS have the right to demand one from an FBI Director? An Attorney General? A SCOTUS nominee?

Outside the same branch of government I think that's somewhat laughable.

Within the same branch I think it's more grey.

Demanding or requiring it seems strong but at the same time, agencies of the EB ultimately answer to the president, do they not?

I'm not convinced one way or the other honestly.

EDIT: I need to read more carefully... I believe he has the right to request such a pledge from EB employees only. No right to demand it of anyone.

I hate loyalty pledges in government towards individuals, leads to the IRS targeting conservative NPO’s, DOJ/FBI to ignore wrong doing by a Presidential candidate, the FBI to spy on a Presidential candidate, etc... What is worse is when you do not have to ask for one and it is granted out of blind loyalty to who you perceive to be an infallible ruler. Terrible thing to put people in place who will do anything for you and if needed perform illegal acts.

No loyalty pledges or yes people for me, had enough of that, just follow the law and constitution.
