So, I'm on the job hunt! Currently I own and operate a small nutrition shop in Velma, America but this was never part of any kind of plan. I quit teaching/coaching in my hometown 2 years ago, worked for a physical therapist until April of last year and have owned this business since. I am still looking at coaching/teaching opportunities, but am open to anything. I have my Bachelor's in Education and Master's (4.0 GPA) in Sports Administration. I got that in hopes of becoming an AD at the HS level or working in a collegiate athletic department, possibly in compliance or operations with a team. All that being said, I really am open to any opportunities where I could be a fit. Competitiveness is probably my greatest asset...I always want to be the best at what I'm doing, no matter what it is. So if anyone knows of anything I might be a fit for or someone who has a contact, or just an idea I hadn't thought of, I would be indebted and happy to buy you a beverage sometime!

Anyone know anyone who is or heard anything about Anheuser-Busch sales reps?

Guess I should note....I'm not looking to come up with a new business venture. I would like to be part of a company/organization.

I don't know what your needs are, but entry level sales jobs are still attainable. If you do well in one of those meet grinders, you become hirable to better opportunities.

Office Depot, cintas, home respiratory companies, pest control, alarms, etc.

I think Jack knows the physical toll the jobs, like anheiser busch take on you. Maybe that's his reasoning.

Yeah, I have looked at that site several times. I don't think I would fill the minimum requirements, as I don't have the required experience working in that field. That is the problem I seem to be running into....all of my experience, other than the 9 months I acted as a PTA and the year I've owned a business, is in teaching/coaching.

Apply anyway. Make them say no.

AB was a really good company to work for years ago. That has all completely changed. I am friends with a 3rd generation, 37th family legacy to work for the company. Pretty sure every male and female besides his gmaw worked for AB. He ended it by walking in the board meeting unannounced and explaining how the new regime was a disgrace to America. Pretty good story, but I cant remember all the details.

As a proud okie, my advice is go to north texas. Wages are not even comparable. And dont listen to any of this cost of living crap.
Good luck.

Any reasons why?

In the Oklahoma market those and other distributor reps are glorified shelf stockers and case pushers. Not much actual sales experience or management training. Pay and hours can be pretty good dependent on the company.

Eventually if you get outside the Oklahoma market the job is much better.

If you don't mind driving you could start out as a courthouse document imager for an oil and gas broker. Then learn how to run title or become a lease buyer.

That's how I put my OSU Sports Management degree to work anyway.

Good advice. A couple buddies of mine from college took this exact path into the industry. That said, it seems that landman are also the first to get cut when the industry enters a down cycle.

When were you at OSU? they added a couple of degree programs a few years after I graduated that I wish I had been in rather than education.

Is there no coaching positions available for a D1 athlete like yourself? If you want to be a high school AD, that seems like a great path.

I don't think too many land companies are hiring, even though things seem to have stabilized and positioned to start the track upward. That would be a great way to get started and the pay is pretty good also. And yes, landman are the first to go. It might be tough right now to get hired with no experience unless you know someone.

I would be cautious on anyone doing Landman stuff. In-laws neighbor worked for El Paso and father-in-law is with Occidental and their letting those people go left and right. Consolidating those responsibilities with others, etc.

HS coaching positions won't start opening until March/April, but I am not opposed to getting out of education and getting into something else. As we all know, teacher pay in Oklahoma stinks. My last year of teaching/coaching I had 8 years of experience on the pay scale and 6 coaching duties and made right at $41,000. I am not sure how teachers who are single and don't coach are able to make a living. Most every AD job posting is for an AD/Head Football Coach, so the AD side is difficult to break into for a female.

@Wally12 You might look at a company like LDF. They usually have jobs in OKC & Tulsa areas. I don't know much about the company other than a few friends who have worked there. They are a distributor for Coors & Red Bull(and others). Jarboe is another distributor in Tulsa/OKC areas. They are liquor & beer.

Wally, my family are all educators, as coaches, teachers and administrators. It would be extremely hard to find/get an AD job in a state like Oklahoma, (which isn't exactly forward thinking). But you might consider other admin jobs in education. But to be fair, you should be aware that the funding for education nationally and our current assumptions/models about public vs private education may be changing considerably soon.
-Colleges don't pay much more for many of their sports' coaches other than the big 3 (football, basketball, baseball). Finding a smaller college coaching gig might be a great way to start at that level. Getting that first job at that level is the hard part. You almost have to know somebody and possibly start as an asst. coach.

Seems to be on the rebound. I don't know of any landmen that haven't been able to find work. The market comes and goes but it's worth it because it's such a gravy profession.

Wally, what do you want to know about AB jobs? I am in the industry (not AB) and work for a top 10 brewer. Are you asking about working for AB or a AB distributor?

Frito Lay loves to hire new college grads into our mgmt team. Jeremy Seaton is a Mgr in the OKC office. You are not a recent grad, but women do well in our company. I wouldn't want the job, but you can fast track up if you wanted. Pay and benefits are good. You would be a good fit, and do well.... I can tak to the guy who hires (osu guy), and see how you might get in for an interview if u were interested. Message me on Facebook if u want to talk more or are interested.

Share the info for everyone ;-)
What do you want to know? Working for a supplier like AB usually happens if you get hired right out of college or soon thereafter, or get hired from a distributor. Some gigs are better than others. Miller or AB are two suppliers that would not be on my list of places I'd like to go, unless it was to break into the biz. If you are looking at working for a distributor, that's a whole different ballgame and not for everybody. Job satisfaction with a distributor really depends on the ownership and management. Some are great to work at and some are a crap sandwich. If you have a specific question, feel free to ask.
