Love him or hate him, the guy was a superstar and a true leader. Here is a guy who was headline news for years, and now he's just a footnote in his passing. Shows how fleeting fame (and life) is.
When I was going to school in the Detroit area in the 70's, I was a co-op student drafter in the auto industry. Just before Ford fired the guy in 1978, they put him in an office across the street at an old nearly abandoned parts warehouse. That sent the message. He was fired days later. What this article doesn't mention is that he had all the poop on Ford and the Ford Pinto rear-end-crash fire design flaw, a big reason why he was fired.
What he did at Chrysler was legendary. Probably his greatest move, looking back was buying American Motors and the Jeep brand.
The Democrats tried hard to get him to run for president in 1988, but he wanted no part in that.
