Lawmakers headed for a big partisan standoff over the debt limit in 2023
Lawmakers on Capitol Hill are gearing up for a political showdown over raising the country’s $31.4 trillion borrowing limit this coming spring or summer after punting the issue to a new Congress.

With the current national debt at over 31 Trillion dollars it's past time to reign in government's spending. In fiscal year 2022 the federal government spent 6.27 trillion and only collected about 4.9 trillion in revenue. I would think everyone could agree that type of spending is not sustainable, especially considering we already have over 31 trillion in debt due to both sides ineptness and corruption.
Typically Democrats will call for raising taxes to continue the out of control spending, while Republicans will demand spending cuts which will be essentially meaningless to the big picture considering the massive unfunded obligations already in place.

Looking at the numbers and considering the politics of it all it looks like a huge fight with no winner and the real loser being the American people that just want to live their lives.
