From the school that produced players like Marvin Mims, Garret Rangel, Ashton Jeantey, and jaden Nixon, among others, here are two more names to remember.
I got a chance to see these guys play last night when I covered the Class 5A region semifinals against Midlothian.
2026 athlete Davian Groce
* Rated No. 4 athlete nationally in junior class.
* He had a 85-yard kickoff return for a TD
* Next possession had a 78-yard run for a TD
* Both scores answered a Midlothian score to keep Lone Star in the game. They eventually scored twice in the final two minutes of the game to rally and advance to regional finals (state quarterfinals).
* He’ll get a lot of comparisons to Travis Hunter
* The vision this kid showed last night was mighty impressive.
The other player is 2027 QB Karece Hoyt
* The kid literally willed Lone Star to the comeback victory.
* With Lone Star down 11 with 5 minutes left, he had 4 runs and 4 passes on next drive that led to a Lone Star TD to pull the Rangers within a score.
* After a turnover, he led Lone Star on another scoring drive in the final drive and scored the winning touchdown with a minute left,
* You could tell the kid was the kind of player who wanted the ball in his hands at the end in crunch time.
* Looking back doing research on him, he has been nominated for offensive player of the week by the DMN on numerous occasions and was the Offensive POW (a tough task because of all the competition) one week.
* Kid is just a sophomore but doesn’t play like it.
