Coach David Beaty's rebuild job just got tougher.
Tuesday, Kansas announced it had dismissed running back Corey Avery and wide receiver Rodriguez Coleman; both had previously been indefinitely suspended in the spring for violating undisclosed team rules.
As a true freshman last season, Avery led the Jayhawks with 631 rushing yards and five touchdowns; Coleman was Kansas' top returning receiver.
That wasn't the only bad news for the Jayhawks' 2015 prospects.
Linebacker Jake Love revealed he is retiring from football for medical reasons. Love finished fourth on the team last season with 53 tackles as well as 9.5 tackles for loss. With All-Big 12 performer Ben Heeney gone, the Jayhawks were counting on Love to step up as their primary linebacker.
