Thought i would drop a few notes john gave during the interview tonight.

the first topic of the night was about joe and when would we expect to see him back. john indicated that smith has a injury and not just the one he was dealing with last year. he said his weight is a problem right now because he got really big over the summer with coach g and with the injury he hasn't been able to cut well. he said he is going to monitor his wrestlers different this year because in the past he use to let them wrestle through the pain but he's learning to be a little more patient with injuries so it can be beneficial to guys in the long run. he said joe is a possibility to wrestle this weekend but will continue to monitor him because he doesn't want the injury to get worst. john then went to the match against Minnesota.

49- many people didn't know after the all star match collicas knee was swollen so he was off the practice mat for a few days. when he wrestled stroker he felt like he had the match under control but indicated the lack of energy could have been from the lack of practice time.

57 -he said he thought jonce was a better match up then davey dolan against the kid from Minnesota so he went with him and he did well. he feels good about having those guys fill in.

65- thought chandler did well. he said chandler is a pinner and guys that are pinners can get you in trouble in a hurry but he indicated that for chandler there are going to be guys that he cant pin so he wants him to stay focus and consistent mentally if he doesn't get the pin. he stated clark glass will be tuff for chandler because clark glass from OU doesn't give up much. So he's going to have to open him up

74-SURPRISE STATEMENT OF THE NIGHT. he said he thinks crutch is very well conditioned and maybe the best condition on the team. he said he works his tail off in the room and before matches. i know he said more but i think i missed a little bit.

84- john said he was surprised that boyd couldn't pull in the leg. he stated that the guy from minny was a top recruit but said nolan needs to continue to stay in position and not flop an flail all over the place.

97- he was actually encouraged by wiegles wrestling. john said he was encouraged because he remembers wiegle struggles at the start of last season and for him to come out and hang tuff and put himself in position to win says a lot about how hard he has worked. john said the guy from minny is a guy that can win the weight.

285- was surprised that austin didn't get ridden. he said the minny guy is a good top wrestler. he said austin is a different man mentally now that he's eating three times a week. he said this weekend will be a good chance for austin to follow up what he's building. ross from OU is ranked 10 and the pitt wrestler is ranked 17th

125- he surprisingly said he wants pic to get bigger because he's not a big 125. he said nic is a career 25 pounder. he was pleased how well nick did because last year eddie wrestled the same minny kid and only beat him 7-3 or 8-2).

133-said brock wrestled through every position and sometimes that worries him. he thought brock looked the more mature wrestler. he was pleased with his wrestling. he indicated brock will have a tuff match with the guy from pitt who is ranked 7th and very physical.

41- dean is solid and he expects dean to tech that kid if they wrestled later in the season.

im sure i missed some things but john said he is excited about bedlam and anything can happen.

Very interesting and it explains some things. In John's post match interview he discussed how much overweight Crutchmer was. Apparently he was working very hard just to make weight. It sounded like he had worked out the whole time available at a very high heart rate just to make weight.
Interesting comments about Austin have trouble getting off bottom against the Minnesota wrestler. I think that was more of a tribute to the competitor.

he also said chandlers weight was overweight leading up to the minny dual. john did say crutch was working extra hard before the match but didn't indicate it was to cut weight.

i really thought nick was a pretty big 25 pounder but i guess not. also looking at other boards (hawks/psu) talk about how big he looked in the minny dual made me think that also
Nah I think he might've stopped growing his junior year of high school. From what I know he could've wrestled 120 as a senior if he really wanted to. I haven't talked to nick as much as I used to but according to his former club coach he still doesn't cut a lot to make 125

That is what I heard in the wrap up after the dual on Sunday. Maybe he switched to Chandler Rogers and I missed that.

Thanks for the update TJA. Worrisome about Joe as we need him at 157 about his shape. He started off well and had a strong ride, then gave up two takedowns late. Rex consistently called his opponent "Stoker" not Stroker so maybe Freddie was "stoked Up". I hope John continues to be surprised by Schafer who could be the key to #35.

SWEET! AD gets 2+2 as time runs out to win 5-4 after getting one after Iran was put on clock earlier in round.

exciting finish by wiz!
Fantastic effort by AD to win in the last seconds with takedown and gut wrench. The Iranian really made one shot but made it count for four. AD kept pushing and shooting to get the penalty point and a great finish!
