Is the data he provided accurate? If so, why would any American not be upset to see those figures? I feel bad for McCain's health, but he is a bitter old man that will not lift a finger to help people in his home state whose healthcare is far less than what those very same taxpayers are paying for him to enjoy. McCain just sealed his legacy as a bitter two faced has been who preached repeal and replace for 7 years and on his death bed betrayed those who voted him in. McCain is jealous as hell Trump did what he could not, take the Presidential election.

wait til october

422 will be 622

have no idea why repubs don't just give ocare a golf clap til folks are in the streets

legislation moves so much easier

It is not that hard to understand.
He was in favor of repeal and replace.
He is not in favor of repeal without a replacement plan.
He made that very clear last night with his statement on why he voted down "skinny repeal".

Don't blame him. Blame the GOP for not being able to figure out a proposal that is better than Obamacare.

Just another lying POS lawmaker and a hypocrite on top of that. He had all these years to build consensus and come up with a better plan, but instead was just a lazy azz that ran around saying repeal and replace to maintain his political standing when nothing was at stake. For me, that is a coward. He might have been brave in his service when survival instinct took over, but he could not back his big talk when it came time to act. I would pass on him covering my 6 in combat.

If it had passed last night the bill would have continued on with debate and amendments, the House and Senate would of had to hammer it out. This just delayed the process and took it back to square one. McCain is so selfish he wants it done HIS way, while Americans suffer. He should be ashamed.

One more bit of evidence that once an entitlement is enacted it will never been repealed regardless of the harm it causes.

That's basically it. I saw this quote the other day:

"Every entitlement typically creates a constituency that benefits from it and is forever dedicated to its defense... and the longer it exists, the more entrenched (and larger) those defenders become. Simply put, entitlements never get repealed."

Yeah. He wasn't willing to take it on faith that they would be able to figure out a solution after they had already failed 4 or 5 times.

Personally, I don't think anyone up there cares if it's repealed. There's a lot of money to be made with this tax.
I don't think anyone should be forced to have insurance or pay an additional tax if they don't. I also think they should be denied care if they can't pay due to not having it.

That McCain quote is from 2010 and in no was was referring to what was voted on last night.

Heck, in 2010 I was saying that it would be great to have a businessman as President. Someone who who run it like a business.

Damn I was an idiot.

I love it.

A few days ago, he was a hero for returning from the hospital to cast the deciding vote along party lines. Now, he belongs in prison.

I never called McCain a hero. Ever.

And oh by the way, when you break the kinds of laws he broke ... you belong in prison (along with his Democrat Senator pals that were in on the same scheme).

Yes, we need career politicians.

It would have been better if the businessman had a good dose of humility.

Trump's arrogance is going to be his undoing.

sorry but a wallflower like jeb bush or any other repub wouldn't have been elected

imagine another sotomayor on the bench

trump was arrogant enough to believe he could be elected and voila

Hillary would have lost to a great number of other candidates. And we certainly didn't need another Bush in the WH.

Again, his arrogance is going to be his own undoing. Just watch.

We will never have a president that isn't arrogant. I think it's a qualification for the job of being the most powerful man in the world.

Selected paragraph from this article:

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/a..._obamacare_repeal_fails_in_senate_134604.html

McConnell, in his speech after the failed vote, said that Democrats had refused to engage “in a serious way” on repealing the law, and challenged them to put forward health care legislation. He said he would not support “bailing out insurance companies” without other reforms.

To my knowledge, the American people (left, center, or right) have NEVER advocated for insurance company bailouts. Yet that is the discussion McConnell is having. We are not a free people.

Much in the same way that most great quarterbacks have to be arrogant to varying degrees...but we don't need them to be Baker Mayfield.
It's a sliding scale, no question.

Just saying - If he gets a tip of the hat after a tough diagnosis, I don't see why it's noteworthy when people get back to ripping his shitty politics.

I guess you can couch it that way. But, you and I both know that a lot of the pro/anti McCain rhetoric was a direct reflection of his pro/anti GOP actions. Not a lot different than what was said about Gowdy in the Gowdy thread.

It's OK. I understand. I'd probably be ripping Al Franken if he had sided with the GOP on the healthcare vote. Right now, I am a Franken fan.

Here's the thing most don't understand. A good number of us don't give a RIP about party.

You see that when we tear into the McCain's, Ryans, McConnells, and even Trumps from the GOP camp.

That's because a good number of us are committed to principle over party.

There things all of those guys have done that I support. There are things Democrats such as Bill Clinton have done that I can support.

I personally don't care if the GOP swirls to the bottom of a toilet of their making.

When the vote goes almost down a straight party line it is hard to not see this as strictly a political issue. It is interesting, not one single Democrat voted for this, and some Republicans voted with the Dems. Interesting that it was Republicans that did not play total party politics. Can anyone say with all honesty that not ONE single Democrat thought change was needed? Not a ONE. So Dems have cowards that vote not what is best for Americans but what they think protects their interests. Senate is fighting over political turf and protecting intere$t$.

The issue here is not Republican or Democratic, it is the fact the ACA needs to be fixed, period. The Dems slammed a bad healthcare plan on the nation with no Republican input. Republicans it appears are basically returning the favor. Dems would rather protect Obama's legacy than help this country.

We needed to get this passed last night to get this thing in to debate and start amending it and to get it to the house and senate to hammer it out. Dems are not going to lift a finger to fix it until they get in to power, god knows when that will be. My assumption is the Dems will fix it by making it a bigger handout than it is today and something that will further hurt business and the middle class. The only winners last night was insurance companies, big pharma, and lawyers.

The entire house and senate needs to be replaced, all of them. I am beyond pissed, if I saw John McCain right now I might punch him for that grandstanding show he put on last night to bring attention to himself, I would do that not because he was a Republican and how he voted, but because he may have killed any hope of fixing something that is royally screwed up. The Dems should be ashamed, they worship a false god called Obama while Americans suffer, I hope the entire house and senate rot in hell.
