Reading the Lindy article reminded me of something that I had forgotten. The death of T. Coger (RIP).
When you think about it, it is really crazy how much Squinky-like bad luck has haunted this program over the last 15-20 years. I know a lot of fans want to blame Eddie/Sean/Ford/MB/Holder for the dumpster fire that OSU BBall has been since Eddie's glory years, and all 5 guys bear some degree of responsibility. But, there has been so much bad luck interwoven into the fabric of the futility, that it is difficult to fathom. The 3 most glaring (IMO) are the D Williams situation, the Cobbins injury when Smart was a freshman, and the death of Coger. All 3 situations, seemingly, made big negative impacts on seasons that could have changed the narrative (not as sure about Coger) of not being able to field a team that could legitimately contend for a Big 12 title/strong NCAA tournament seed. All 3 situations were cases of bad luck rather than glaring coaching mistakes. There are a bunch of other situations that can be debated as bad luck vs. coaching mistakes as well.
