I just happened to turn on the tv to Tucker Carlson’s show. He’s reporting on the homeless crisis in major California cities complete with video of tent cities on streets littered with trash, needles, feces, vermin. Of course he’s putting the blame on the Democrats that have run those cities and that state forever, as he rightly should. I agree they are to blame for the situation.
But that’s not why I’m starting this thread. While watching those retched pictures from California I was reminded how some on this board have vilified aliabedi, a fellow OSU alum who happens to have leftist political inclinations, for living in a shithole country, as if he should not be allowed personal political opinions because of conditions in parts of his homeland.
I don’t know aliabedi, but I would venture to guess he lives in a house and a neighborhood every bit as nice as the houses and neighborhoods in which his detractors reside. It seems patently unfair for people on this board to denounce aliabedi for living in a shithole country when there are plenty of areas in our own country that can match Pakistan’s destitution shithole for shithole.
Maybe it would make more sense to argue against his leftist ideology in a sane and reasonable manner rather than seek the lowest denominator. I think it makes a person look small to attach conditions in one’s country as validation to reject and insult the person with whom he is conversing. Aliabedi, as far as I can tell has almost never responded in kind. Looking at the pictures from Carlson’s show makes it hypocritical that one feels superior about conditions in our own country. Carlson held the mirror up for us to see, and it isn’t a pretty reflection.
