Isbell New Album

Can be heard in entirety on NPR First Listen

Just came to post this.

Several songs played at Cains (as you know). The album is quite excellent, after one listen. He's said this one is much happier ... You can feel that. He's really one of the best song writers and artists of this era. So good.

Mentioned the show at Cains, which led me to think about John Moreland. I know this is a slight hijack, but anyone who likes Isbell will love Moreland. High on Tulsa heat is probably my favorite album so far this year. So far.

Love Isbell and have a crush on his wife.

Different genre, in fact, not sure where to pigeon-hole her music, but have you heard Elle King? Got the Love Stuff cd with Ex's and Oh's, Where the Devil Don't Go, Last Damn Night, Under the Influence. Not sure what's been released, but I've heard some on XM Alternative. Excellent and there's no one to compare her to. Different.

I've just heard Ex's and Oh's on satellite.

Rest of the cd good?

Ex's and Oh's is really catchy, but I may like Where the Devil Don't Go and Last Damn Night better. Last three songs on the cd are not as strong. Becky stole it and drove around with it for a few days.

Marshal, I had no idea of that relationship.

First is Where the devil don't go and second is Last damn night.

Moreland is great. I think the fact that he isn't more popular is a particularly damning commentary on the need for today's artist to have a marketable "appearance" in order to get popular with the general public in today's society.

Tend to agree, Jimmy. Unfortunate but true. I'm actually worried about his health. In the immortal words of Waylon "ain't livin long like this"

He absolutely killed it with Sturgill Simpson in Windstar. He was really, really good and I didn't know who he was.

Thanks for the heads up on John Morland, really really liking his stuff.
