Is Oklahoma really considering permitless carry?

Not sure I have much to object to in this one.

Sponsored by state Representative Jeff Coody, HB 2951 recognizes the right of Oklahomans to carry a firearm for self-defense without having to get government permission to do so. Self-defense situations are difficult, if not impossible, to anticipate. Accordingly, a law-abiding adult’s right to defend themselves in such situations should not be conditioned by government-mandated time delays and taxes. The CWP will still be available for those who wish to take advantage of reciprocity agreements when traveling to other states.

Edited to add: Does this include both open and concealed carry?

Arizona has open carry laws and outside of certain gang situations in urban phoenix and tuscon, I'm not sure its any more violent than any other major area. My biggest concern with open carry is that I'm more likely to be targeted as that gun itself becomes an asset to be robbed of. A glock is as valuable as a rolex on the street.

I don’t own a gun, never have, probably never will. What is the age limit in the proposal? You said “law abiding adult.” What is the age one is legally considered an adult in this case? 18? If it’s 18 would this law allow 18 year old high

school students to openly bring a gun to school?

For a state that's had open carry for ever Arizona sure is a popular place to live.

Lived there 8 years saw people packing guns all the time never felt unsafe.

We aren't talking open carry and conceal carry here. This is PERMITLESS carry. You don't have to get training, you don't have to register the gun, you don't have to do anything but buy a gun and a holster.

Yeah, open carry. It's what everyone over 45 grew up with

Can you carry a concealed weapon under this proposed law? I think I'm okay with it regardless.

Shall not be infringed.

I am taking the statement "The CWP will still be available for those who wish to take advantage of reciprocity agreements when traveling to other states" to mean that a CWP will not be necessary in Oklahoma, but available so you can comply with other states' laws.

HB 2951 allows both permitless open carry and permitless concealed carry.

Scalia clearly and explicitly said that statutes barring or regulating concealed carry were constitutional in Heller.

That last statement isn’t an policy preference statement, just a legal interpretation re: “shall not be infringed”.

Exactly. Some states require a license from another state before granting reciprocity carry to residents of other states.
