Interesting Article On Not Voting, Changing The Way Voting Takes Place

All make more sense than how we do it. I still don't understand why we have to elect one person to reflect our views across a wide range of issues. We're plugging in 1700's culture and technology into a country that needs smart 21st century government. It's primitive and virtually guarantees anti-democratic government like what we're dealing with now. Jefferson, Washington, Adams et al would be the first to take a look around and improve democracy now that we can.

OMG, sys! You are so close to getting it! The country is huge and diverse. There is no way a central government can rule effectively. Disperse the power. Local people should make their own decisions. The way it is now nobody is satisfied. We're at each other's throats, determined to wrest control from the "enemy." What Tocqueville saw in 1848 is repeating itself here, today. Democracy is not what it's cracked up to be.

What specifically are you talking about? What decisions are local people not allowed to make because of government?

Edit: You're just repeating a right wing narrative to generate outrage without specifics. It means nothing, Dan. You gotta provide specifics. I can read that and conclude you're against the FAA or atomic energy regulation, a navy, and interstate highways.

And you would be right, philosophically speaking.

Lots of countries don't have much government regulations. We can't look to them?
So many of your questions are answered in the post I made a couple of days ago, Long Essay. It is a very long essay requiring an attention span few people today possess. I was hoping you would read it. Unfortunately you chose to disparage it without reading it. If you could read it with an open mind, with the idea that you are truely going to try to understand what he's saying, rather than reading it with the preconceived idea of disputing it, I think there is a lot in there that might open your eyes.

To reply to your actual question, I don't know to which countries you refer.

My goodness you sure are hung up on Somalia, a country deep into decades of civil war between rival despots. Hardly a country of peaceful citizens producing products and exchanging them in a marketplace. I don't live in Somalia, know next to nothing about it. But I'd bet the local despots rule with an iron fist, slaughtering anyone that doesn't accede to their regulations.

Yep. Its libertarian anarchist, like you want. No regulation and a very weak central government. Aaaaand thats what happens.

I'm not sure why you waste time with a cachectic binary thinker. It's either the complete nanny state or Somalia every single time. There isn't anything in between that computes. You'd have better conversation with dirt from your yard.

I've asked many times who's doing it right. I'd love a real life answer but all the small- government, everyone-has-a-gun places are shitholes so the answer is always deflect. That's because it's fairy tales and moonbeams with you guys. Nothing practical, always fantasy.

Your myopic binary thinking is quite breathtaking. Expansion of thinking requires you to actively participate. You have to be willing to digest, compare, and contrast to form your own thoughts.

For starters, take a look at the Cato Human Freedom Index. The latest has the US ranked 23rd (based on the latest data from 2014). Look at what and how they measure. Look at the countries in the top of the list. Compare and contrast those to the countries at the bottom. Switzerland is at the top. They have a small central government and they have guns. Read up on Switzerland and compare and contrast their government to that of the US. Look at Singapore. Look at Hong Kong. Look at New Zealand. Look at the Netherlands. Hell, look at Canada. Compare them with each other. Contrast them with each other. Nobody can spoon feed you, nor should you want them to.

If you started with the question of who's doing it better and how instead of who's doing it right, you wouldn't find yourself pigeon holed to the useless US to Somalia comparison that you fart out. You actually described Somalia as a libertarian anarchist. That statement is the epitome of ignorance on the subject and that is why nobody engages you in a serious conversation.

FYI, the US slipped from 16th in 2008 to 23rd in 2014 in the Human Freedom Index. The US is projected to fall again for 2015 and 2016. There's a reason for that negative slide. Lots of commentary about it. Interesting reading.

The average IQ in Somalia is 68.

I do regret I let the original post get hijacked. I'm curious what people think of the voting alternatives the author proposes.

And they're libertarians.
I just googled Somalia and Libertarian and holy shit, you are a real life mush brained lefty talking point. Damn that's hilarious! You literally know nothing outside what you're fed. Regurgitated verbatim. That really explains everything.

Hahahahahahaha! Man what a simpleton.

@syskatine, come tell us more tales of those libertarians in Somalia. I can provide the link to your Daily Kos talking points if you need some help.

I can't. I'm in Somalia and there's no internet. Stop.

I'm simply communicating this over the border to Ethiopia via smoke signals and my valet is typing it. Stop.

Real paradise. Stop.

Not a governmental regulation in sight. Stop.

I'm almost out of wood and my blanket caught on fire. Stop.

But don't worry -- the burns will heal nicely because we have 100% free market medicine. Stop.

These khat leaves work good af though. Stop. No, Maroonga whatever you do don't type that last bit. Stop.

Actually sounds like you're in Detroit. Somalia has internet.

Or Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kentucky, etc.
I realize my mistake. You mentioned free market medicine. We don't have that anywhere in the US. But you aren't in Somalia if you don't have internet. You actually appear to be lost. I'd get a refund from the travel agent if I were you.
