It happens. A friend of mine had some distant relative try to get custody of her when she was a kid because she was being raised in a non Indian home....after she'd been adopted as a newborn and had never lived with anyone else.

Thankfully, sane people got involved.

Yeah, try adopting a native American child. It is 10 times more difficult than Chinese arithmetic.
