This family was middle class, so with 8 kids dad always had an old car, did not go out to eat, hand me down clothes, etc....

The father put the first child thru college and told him that he had to pay the college education for the sibling below him, and that sibling had to pay the college education for the sibling below them, etc...all the way down the line.

Really great family, hardworking mom and dad that were great parents.

All 8 kids got a college education, all of them doing really well with great jobs and professions.

Dad could only afford to put one thru college, but his family unit was so strong and he taught those kids so well at a young age he had a plan to see them all have a better life then he did.

I post this because the discussion on income equality for me is a family unit and education issue, and education starts at birth and should address family and social responsibility.

To me, this example represents what family is all about, just a beautiful story that is so inspiring.

My kids' college financing will be the same as mine. Save your money. Work all summer and save every penny. Live at home for free in the summer. Go off to college and get a part time job (mine was driving a school bus). Repeat cycle until you're done.

Something unexpected happens, like the transmission in your car goes out, give me a call.

And at ages 15 and 13, they are saving already. Beautiful.

My wife is the youngest of 8. Her dad was an immigrant and did not have a college education. He started his own small business that he ran until about a year before he passed.

All 8 of the children graduated from college.

And I am a huge advocate for savings. My 19-year old opened a Roth IRA this year.

Paid for three through OSU. Cheaper than McGuinness and Episcopal in Houston. "That's My Job" They had to work at Joes and the Hideaway for spending money though.

Same here.

I probably ended up paying about 25% of the cost of two of my kids that went to OSU and one to law school. They both had jobs all through college and in the summers. They are mentally tough individuals now and much of that is due to their college experience.

Have they shut down the airport or at least harassed the unsuspecting passengers?

I'm continually amazed with the number of kids given fully paid athletic scholarships and the educational opportunity accompanying it who piss it off by doing stupid stuff.

I'm not. I'm just amazed that these same people are later complaining that they don't have all the same opportunities and earnings as those who didn't make such poor decisions.
