How slimy is DC? There's a slush fund to pay settlements in harassment cases

Ha you beat me to it Medic....what a load of shit! Between 1997 and 2014, $15.2 million was paid out to 235 claimants who have to sign nondisclosure statements and the freakin congressional POS doesn't have to be identified.

The whole lot of them need to be put in a giant meat grinder and maybe "we the people" can start over. How can a group of rulers, who acquiesce to things like this and pass laws that apply to everyone but themselves actually ever be trusted.

It's not JUST DC.

Weinstein Company had one for Harvey...it was in his contract.

Fox News had one for O'Reilly.

I would bet many major corporations have them as well.

Well, those are private companies so I'm not going to compare them to the government that writes and enforces the laws that I have to follow. They require me to have annual sexual harassment training. But they don't require it of themselves. I have personal accountability on several levels if I break the law. They have taxpayer funded slush funds and non-disclosures. I wish I was certain this one thing is the only example of government malfeasance, but we both know that's laughable.

Hell Obama told the illegal voting block to break our laws over the public airwaves and nobody blinked. Then bitched about outside forces influencing our election without laughing.

Dude sure could talk real nice.

You mean like Congress having their own healthcare plan and not needing to participate in Obamacare, Trumpcare, or any other care that they are saddling the rest of us with?

They are all scumbags.
Yep, the exemption that they wrote for themselves, Obama signed, and then they denied having. And 11 months into a new presidency, they still have it.

I feel ya, bro.

In the same boat with you.

What's weird is that we'll argue all day long on here about partisan politics, when in reality they are all self serving shitbags. If I were of the conspiracy type, I'd think it was intentional to keep us from being interested in what they all have in common.

Gonna toot my own horn (shocking, I know)......

Been saying exactly this FOR YEARS here.

Good point.

I actually wonder if any of them are actually good people who care about doing a good job and doing what is in the best interest of our country.

It seems like they are all beholden to lobbyists and make their decisions based on what is most likely to increase the amount in their personal bank accounts.

That sentiment is taking root.

Let's see how deeply.

Bushes = Slick Willie = Cankles = The Muslim = The Cheeto looking dude with a toupee.

Not one better or worse than any other. Equal. Same. Cut from the same cloth.

Meet the new boss.

Same as the old boss.

My bet is that I get some argument that yeah....they're all bad, but THAT guy (take you pick) is off the charts bad.

I'm becoming more cynical every day.....and I started way high in that department from the beginning.

The last one was from outside the pol class. However small, a step in the right direction.

Have none of you been paying attention to how much money has been paid out due to acts by members of the Oklahoma legislature and state agencies this year for sexual misconduct?

I know a lot of people have been focused on "hollywood" (the place), without seeming to recognize that this crap has been going on in the military (personnel & civilian employees), private companies, law firms, accounting firms, hospitals, city and state governments, etc. for decades as well.

Hell, I knew an attorney at the Trademark Office who while in law school was doing an internship in the Arizona State Atty Gen's office. She went to up the chain of leadership three times complaining about her superior (a state prosecutor) being "handsy" and making lewd comments to her, with all ignoring her complaints.

The last week she worked there, the guy caught her in her office alone after normal business hours and violently raped her. She sued the state and her case was the very first one ever broadcast on Court TV. She ended up with about $4 Million and retired.

I was in high school when a big brouhaha broke out at Tinker AFB when some Col was accused of requiring sexual favors, or benefits for providing such favors, to about a dozen civilian female employees. Eventually about two dozen women came forward making nearly identical accusations and forced Tinker/AF into taking steps to stop it.

Along those lines, have any of you been reading the things being uncovered in the Navy's investigation into the hooker and booze bribing scheme that has apparently been going on within the Pacific Fleet for decades? Just use your favorite search engine to look for "Fat Leonard" and you should find it. The number of Naval Officer involved and under investigation is staggering with some 40 Flag Rank (Rear Admiral or above) Officers indicted, convicted or under investigation.

Do you guys think that say Mickey Edwards, who divorced and remarried at least three times while in office (in each case marrying a younger woman, usually former beauty queens) wasn't out there putting the moves on women in his DC and OK offices? The guy was named the "biggest womanizer on Capital Hill" by a poll of Hill Staffers published by Washingtonian Magazine for cripes sake.

He's fighting for American interests overseas currently instead of selling them off to the highest bidder. That alone is a radical change from the past 3.

I am a freaking Nostradamus.....

so, pointing out America picked someone from outside the pol class fits that how?

In the context of the conversation, it certainly doesn't.

It's the other sentence, and in the context of the conversation, it certainly does.

In the context of the conversation....in which I said they are all equal, same....you respond that Trump is an improvement, a step in the right direction...ergo, not the same.

I will give you credit for taking a SLIGHTLY different tack. Instead of they're all bad, but X is off the chart bad....you went they're all bad, but Trump is a slight improvement over the others.

Pointing out we chose a different path wasnt an endorsement of a person.

JD I'm with you. In fact if you did one of those blind taste type tests without mentioning name or party, just the persons official stance in the beginning and it's various manifestations over time, with regards to what the person does or doesn't vote for I doubt many people would find much of anything they liked about rep or senator "x," "y" or "z."

There certainly a few outliers who do stick with their promises, but the vast majority of them are self serving attention whores who's whole function in life, after their initial election win, is to stay elected and be the best whore possible for special interest money. And they always will be more loyal to said lobbyists regardless of the impact it has on America or their constituency.

We need a states convention in the worst way, to address term limits, limit special interest money and make sure any law passed by congress "for the people" also applies to the whores in congress.

I was referencing the sentiment we were talking about.

So, no.

To recap, saying electing Trump (a non-pol) was a "step in the right direction" was in no way an expression that he was even the slightest bit better than all the other pols.

Got it.

Check.

Affirmative.

You're right.

Again.

Obviously.

Ya'll know the slush fund deal mirrors what happened at our beloved state legislature earlier this year?

Let's see how deeply.

I think there is still a significant macro effect of big, important things that affect the entire forrest that get overlooked for one tree's leaf. Does a POTUS leave the country in a war? A recession? Higher or lower unemployment? If you go back a political generation and overlay the economic and military situation in the congress, the tired, frustrating, irritating binary party data results in a definite trend that commands a reasonablly patriotic american's attention. I'm sort of plagiarizing this from James Carville's book.

This. I could go on all day. It happens so often, and people have been getting fired for so long, so much, that the sudden press and spin in insane. The term "casting couch" has been around for decades.

Pointing out we chose a different path wasnt an endorsement of a person.

Keep telling yourself that.

I don't know if Trump is better or worse, but I certainly voted for him for this exact reason. He isn't from the existing political ruling class (establishment Rs & Ds). He is of the aristocracy, but given our election system and the money involved, there is/was no alternative that's not part of the 1%er club.

trump didn't move politically to crush this russia thing

99% are so soft and cuddly they can't get passed the personality
