first off congrats to our young men coming to compete today and winning this dual. that being said how much would it cost to get a ref into stillwater that would just call it even let alone give us a call once in a while. even if you say the initial call of takedown was premature they kept wrestling and kindig secured it later. collica pinned that staller twice and they called him off the mat with a foot clearly in. mccutchen never took a shot and no stall warnings. look if we stall call it but when they stall also call it. if the dual was in iowa there would have been 12 more stall calls in the dual.

anyways great job to our wrestlers bringing it today, hope kindig strained it and not worse, extra kudos to eddie, dean, anthony, nolan and andrew for constantly answering the bell and swinging momentum back in our direction.

on a side note very impressed with the way the psu team goes for the pin.....that is why they have won 4 in a row is their willingness and ability to put people on their back and keep them there. if they win matches by major instead of pin they would not have won 2 of the 4.....

go pokes

and yes obviously it was austin not andrew with the win
just excited to get his brother into stillwater

Kev - I agree. There are a dozen different threads that could come from this match, and the ref would be a dozen of them.

Kindig
o I agree the initial TD call was too quick. Kendig did not have control, but after a scramble, he came out on top. Bad call, that could have been waved off.

o Cale standing at the scorer's table and clapping his hands over his head to get the ref's attention. Can coaches do that?

o When the ref sees Cale he stops the match. Kindig has Beitz (or was it Frey) on his belly with his legs tied up and Beitz (or was it Frey) cannot move. Assume the ref confirms his initial TD call. Beitz (or Frey) gets a restart in a much better situation.

Collica
o Alton was pinned and Collica had his toes in the circle, ref calls the out of bounds.

Marsden
o In the OT, Marsden has the reverse (or TD), is flat on his belly with Lawson's left leg sort of underneath him. Lawson reaches over and grabs Marsden's leg. Nobody can move. Marden gets a warning. That should have been a stalemate.

OK, 5 of them. I'm probably missing a few.

Agree with both of you on the great win and our wrestlers looked sharp today. Disagree with you about the ref. I thought he made every call right except for the takedown for Kindig which he later revesed. I do believe he could have just called it off and then we would have eventually got the takedown. Other than that one call I thought he was correct in every other call. I do hate instant replay as all it does is delay the match and penalizes the wrestler who is in the best shape and rewards the wrestler that is having lung problems. Eddie wrestled a very good match and at the end he was in just as good shape as Conaway who is known for great shape. Heil had a very large wrestler at his weight but he takes too much time off after he scores points. He needs to learn to wrestle a full match but who is complaining- he won the match. Kindig got caught with his knee to near his head by a very long wrestler and paid the price. He is still not 100% back from his injury in the Missouri match. By the 2/3 point of the first period Alton was gassed and Collica was able to practice takedowns. That was just a pathetic performance or non-performance by Alton. A huge mis-judgement by Cael to let him wrestle.

Alex was dominant again but got a little tired at the end. Kudos to Crutchmer for keeping it close but he really does need to be in better shape. However, it is hard to wrestle Brown as he is heavy-handed and keeps the pressure on. Nolen Boyd wrestled within himself today and looked good. I thought it was a definite step in the right direction for him. Luke Bean didis best to keep the score under a major and did it without stalling. Austin Marsden was huffing after one period but he had the guts to stay the whole match and we benefitted by the reviews. He is better than he wrestled today and did not come out with the fire he usually has in his matches.

Overall it was a great win for the Pokes. The ref did not make it a close match, the teams made it close match.

I thought both coaches were guilty of asking for reviews just so their wrestler could catch his breath. Far too many reviews today, in my opinion. It seems like asking for a review has just become part of the coaching strategy and I would like to see something change to lessen the frequency and the impact on the match.

looked like a fall to me (i was so close i could have spat upon them.)

alton gassed when he made weight....he was pinned cause he couldnt move and was just laying there....in iowa he would have gotten 6 more stalling calls against him....i just want the ref to call it the same in stillwater for the pokes as they do for hawkeyes in iowa and the gophers in minny and the lions in penn. i watch every dual and tourney on big 10 network including purdue and indiana and i know how it gets called over there and i just want the same thing in stillwater. if we are stalling call it but we consistently get hit with more stall calls in stillwater than our opponent and it is just driving me crazy. let alone when a guy cant breathe and he just quits and you call him out of bounds twice and the first time collica had his whole foot and ankle still in....just adhere to the rules that are easy to follow.
