until you throw it away. Friend gave me some elk and venison and it was great. I got it home and the wife says, that was packed in 2015. Well, so what I said. She said to throw it away. What's the word? It is ground meat and has no freezer burn as far as looking at it. Vacuum packed in see through plastic at a meat packer.

Should be fine indefinitely as long as no freezer burn. I usually will start tossing it at 5 years just to make space for other shit I’ll throw away five years from now

How long it lasts depends on the quality of storage and being airtight. I've had plenty of venison that was 3 or 4 yrs old and was fine, but I've also had some 2 yrs old or less that wasn't edible due to freezer burn. If it looks like no freezer burn and smells fine, I'd sure try it if I were you. Then you'll know.

That's probably a good practical limit, in the best of conditions, without freezer burn otherwise. I know I've eaten a lot of venison 2+ yrs old that you would have thought was a month old.
