If it is quick then it doesn't shape anything. If it is a slow death then I vote for the ones legalizing drugs so I can numb the pain.
I actually like a more liberal candidate on some social issues and a fiscally conservative on financial stuff so I guess some environmental issues might drive my vote more.

The world? When the sun gets hot enough to boil off the atmosphere.
Modern civilization? It's probably within two centuries from now, baring any sort of unexpected major catastrophe (asteroid, gamma burst, nuclear war, disease pandemic, etc) mainly because of our own tendency to push problems down the road and waste resources while arguing about unimportant things.
Human civilization probably goes on after that in some fashion...it just depends on what kills off the modern age.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the sun supposed to explode around seven billion years from now? That ought to do it.
The Yellowstone Caldera eruption will be a bitch for humans. My next guess would be virus/super bacteria. No time frame. And yes, the senseless use of antibiotics shapes my political views.
I think the most likely scenario is that we destroy ourselves by nuclear destruction or similar mass weaponry due to fundamental differences in cultural or religious viewpoints. Second most likely scenario in my view is artificial intelligence. Third is destruction by asteroid or other natural space object. Worldwide education without a victimization or religious bias is the best way in my view to avoid my first outcome. Current political platforms in the US do not seem to be able to generate such result since the main political parties are into indoctrination or victimization.
I’ve got a fairly literal view of the book of Revelation, so my red-blooded evangelical self just keeps on keeping on. My family would think I’m too liberal on social issues, but I’m solidly red. Overall it doesn’t shape my political views except for my fitting the Bible Belt conservative evangelical profile.
Mostly this, however I see two remedies - first Elons dream is realized and humans become multi planetary. As well, I do tend to believe there is an bioengineering leap in our future that transforms what we define as humanity.
