We replaced traditional western religion with the new religion of post modernism. Free speech and comedy are for heretics.
Civics and the history, especially the whys of our founding, have not been taught in schools for a very long time.
In addition the media especially Hollywood have been totally corrupted. Hollywood types used to be normal folks who could act. That is no longer the case
