Who is our presumed HW next year? One of the young kids on the roster (they look to have mixed results in open tournaments)? Is one of the 197ers able to bump up?

I've been hoping there is senior tx looking for a good shot to compete for a team title next year. Feel this is the one weight that is a question mark for next year.

There was some talk of Schafer moving up next year as he has been a big and strong 197.

I'm sure they will look at transfers as well. Getting someone to score here might be pretty big for next years title hopes as the rest of the lineup looks very good.

Ethan Andersen will be coming in, he would be a true freshman, but with some work he should be good. Not sure if he would be a factor off the bat next year though considering he wrestled 220 this year, he would need to put on some weight. I would imagine it would be better to find a good transfer for one year and let Andersen, Allen and Beier get another year in the practice room. The lineup next year will be very good.

If I can stay under the 285 mark, I might come out of retirement myself.

Sent from my iPhone while eating my fourth lunch of the day at Texas Roadhouse, including my third round of rolls with the cinnamon butter.

If we can't find one, I'm sure Collica would volunteer to move up?

I love an athletic Heavy!

If not him, we can put Anderson on the 15 $1 burgers diet. It put 60 pounds on Germaine Gresham in 6 months.

We do need a HWT next because our options are weak. I wrote several months ago from watching tapes of Anderson he would need to do lots of developing before he would be a good HWT. I also noticed he started better than he finished matches which concerned me.

Andersen has some potential, but I agree that he got kinda sloppy at the end of his finals match. He'll get better with time and should turn out to be a good upper weight kid for the pokes.

What about 197? Are we expecting one of the two returners? Those are the only two weights that concern me but I don't do a great job of keeping track of who is waiting in the wings.

I think 197 is going to be Marsden and/or Weigel for the next 4-5 years.

No way it can be 5 years but if Marsden takes a redshirt I suppose it could be for the next 4 years. Well I suppose one could take an Olympic redshirt but I doubt either one will climb that high on the qualification ladder.

I meant including this year, I should have qualified the statement.

JUCO national tournament is going on now. I wonder if there are any potential HWs to watch for.

I certainly hope so as from what I have seen of our current prospects we are going to need some immediate help at heavyweight.

The number one juco heavy is Bkake Andrews from NEO.
Blake Andrews is seeded #1 andhehas a42-5 overall record. He is originally from Grapevine, Tx. and was a Texas State champ and a Fargo AA. His overall recordis 155-16 in high school. He won the OCU open this year in the open division. His team-mate at NEO of course is Jacobe Smith who we recruited and he is the defending National Juco champ at 174 and he is 36-2 this year and he is the #1 seed.

I'd love to know what Weigel weighs. He's very strong and thick, but not tall. Kind of curious if he could cut to 84. Marsden has shown some flashes. He's a risk taker and quite funky. Needs to move some weight "upstairs" in the strength and conditioning program.

Heavy really concerns me. If there isn't a good sr transfer out there, I'm not sure we have an answer. Now Schafer is framed right to be a 240, 250 heavy, and he's certainly got the ability to start getting there now, due to the suspension. I love the kid and I hope he can get his head on straight and maybe be the answer next year.

harley i love your optimism......john smith told anderson to come to osu and he'd make him a national champion so evidently john liked what he saw and forgot to ask whether you thought he might make a good heavy......

They do not seed the Juco National tourney. Those kids may be the number one ranked kid at their weight, but the tourney is not seeded.

It is run like a lot of state tourneys - the number 1 kid from a certain regional wrestles the number 3 kid from another etc.. I think they even put the pairings out after the qualifiers also.
