I think there was once a thread on this, but it was before the board migration as I could not find it.

Thoughts on HR and DSC? Either of them better than the other? I don't want a subscription where they send me something every month/week. Just looking to buy some quality razors for cheap.

I've been bummed with Harry's. Will probably shift to a single blade or straight razor next.

Looks cool. Blades are pretty dull, IMHO.

They worked with the best agency in the US to get a great brand though.

I have Harry's and really like them and have been using them for at least a year now. I especially like their shaving creme/lotion and after shave.
The blades are pretty solid. I get a full week out of one razer. Maybe two if I do a good job of cleaning the stubble out of it between shaves. I'll say that sometimes it doesn't do a great job on my neck. I have to go many different directions on my neck to get it really smooth.

I've never done the dollar shave club so I can't comment on them.

I agree with this. Blades were incredibly bad with DSC and average (despite the marketing of their purchasing a German blade manufacturer) with Harry's. Overall, I was money ahead buying more expensive blaspdes as they lasted much longer and were significantly sharper.

I've been using dollar shave for a while. I use about a blade a week. They've been good for me. My wife uses them now also. I save a ton of money now on razors between both of us.

I've saved a lot of money by going to safety razor and feather blades. The handle cost $35, and then the blades were 100 count for $27.25 or 28 cents apiece. If you can avoid buying a bunch of artisan shaving soaps and brushes, you can save a lot of money, if.

I swear the day I no longer have to do it, I'll never shave again. One of the things I hate most. I've tried Harry's, DSC and a few others. Learned with a safety razor, maybe I just never learned the correct technique, because I was always nicking myself. Been using the Gillette fusion, with the swivel head handle. Very happy with it. I also shave in the shower, makes all the difference in the world in getting a smooth, close shave with no blood.

I also shave in the shower and 100% agree. Prior to the switch, I used to nick myself every other time I shaved. Since, it happens maybe once a year.

I usually don't post on this board, but I thought I would chime in this topic. When using either an electric razor or a conventional razor with cream I break out on my neck since I am OCD about getting a close shave.

As a frequent listener of Howard Stern, I try out some of the tips he often provides to his followers. Recently, he commented that he never uses shaving cream (just water) and NEVER has to change his razor and yet, not only gets a close shave, but has never cut himself. I have been shaving now for a few weeks trying out his method and he was spot on with the tip. I typically use just an ordinary Gillette double bladed razor (nothing fancy) and was surprised by the results.

I have not been doing this long enough to comment on the validity of Howard's claim, that one will never have to change the razor using this method. But it does seem like the blade stays sharp longer, as I have not had to change it yet (it's only been a couple of weeks). Still, I must say that never having to change the blade again seems like a far-fetched notion, to say the least. So take it for what it's worth, but it works for me.

I tried that in the military. I ended up with razor burn from hell. I was always prone to bumps on my neck but this caused hell for me. I did it because some guys swore by it. Not because of HS obviously, we are talking like 10 years ago. It does work for some guys though.

I did the Harry's trial a few weeks ago and got razer burn so I trashed it. I like dollar shave club, but only the $9 razer. The shave butter is good stuff too.
