Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy joined a number fellow Big 12 coaches on Wednesday as guests on ESPN's SportsCenter. Gundy chatted with Linda Cohn about a variety of topics. Here are the highlights.

Gundy on quarterback Mason Rudolph: "He's had a really good summer and worked hard in the spring. He's only played in three games, but he was big in those games. So, a lot of people are saying great things about Mason. He's been a good leader and he's showed some signs of toughness, but he's developed in the classroom and that part of the quarterback position."

Gundy on why OSU should to be considered among the contenders for a Big 12 title this season: "We played 21 freshmen or redshirt freshmen last season and those players are back. We're a little bit more mature, a little more experienced at the quarterback spot, there's more depth in the secondary and at the linebacker position and our offensive line has grown up and matured a little bit. We like our football team and I like the chemistry of our group."

Gundy on the potential for Big 12 expansion: "I think that we're in a good shape right now. I don't want to overreact, we shouldn't overreact. We were close up until that last week of maybe getting two teams in and we ended up not getting one in. But there's good football in the Big 12 and I think the conference champion, the team that takes care of business this year, they'll be in the playoff."

Gundy on his oldest son's decision to attend college: "My 18-year-old, Gavin, is going to Arkansas. He's got hours at Oklahoma State and he loves Oklahoma State, but he doesn't want to go to school where his dad is the coach. So, I had to buy in and let him go out and create his own identity."

Gundy on his mother: "I was very fortunate to have a really good upbringing. My father was very disciplined and structured and accountability was important, our work ethic. But my mom had the other side of it and she pushed us through things at times that it didn't look as good as what we wanted it to. She would say, 'Hey, when the going gets tough, the tough get going.' She was there from day one. A lot of things that she did, she was very strong in our family, and in a quiet way provided great leadership for us."

Gundy on the decision to dismiss Tyreek Hill following his domestic violence charge: "Each situation is different and it's the most difficult part of my job in my opinion. We had a conversation with our team about the situation and society and domestic violence ... There was no way we would accept hitting a female. There's always two sides to a story and it was extremely difficult. But we just felt like to play at Oklahoma State, there's a certain way that we have to handle ourselves, as difficult as it was that he couldn't be a part of our team."
