The "Herbie" thread reminded me of something that flitted across my mind last night...
*and this thought is somewhat blunted by having a 4 team playoff now, but it could still be applicable to 2 or more teams battling it out for that 4th spot.
In 2011, it almost appeared that Gundy was not prepared for how to handle the politics and "driving" your team to the championship game, while Saban was on every radio and tv broadcast that would give him air time to make his case for being in the game.
If Gundy were to replay those 2 or 3 weeks after the Iowa State loss, or if/when we are even in a position again to need some strong advocating for the 4th spot in the playoff, is Gundy now of the mindset (or is he now equipped) to fight hard for his team? Nothing is given, it's all taken, in sports.
