My wife and I own several handguns, we are both conceal to carry. I consider myself proficient with my handguns but not an expert shooter, not certain with my handgun my first shot is a kill shot, a central nervous system event. Maybe they bleed out later and die.

Since getting my handguns, I purchased an AR-15 .22LR that I bought for plinking, I know people that live out in the country and it is a blast to shoot, even at the range. I am really accurate with that rifle but not certain that is saying a whole lot, it is really easy to shoot. Great prepper gun, for hunting small game.

I have a self defense shotgun and a shotgun I use mainly to shoot skeet, I love the wobble stand. Very confident I can hit a human target with a shotgun.

So, I buy handguns for self defense, home and carry. Then I get a rifle and some shotguns. Mutiple weapons means multiple choices for self defense.

I am certain, with my AR-15 .22LR I am accurate enough I could double tap right between the eyes at 10 yards and with handgun I might risk missing a head shot but am very comfortable I hit center mass but probably only get off one shot in the time I could get 2 accurate shots with my AR, and the AR I do not see as a defense weapon but for plinking.

The shotgun, I have special defense shells, and these shells have a sheath that goes partly down range to keep the shot together to make a more centered shot, you want this especially when you are in a house and others live in the house. From what I have seen, if I hit you 10 feet from me in my hall way you will have a hole about 4-6 inches wide in your chest, D-E-A-D.

So, if you are me, and Mr. Bad guy comes in, what are you going for?

I am going for the shotgun with the defense shells. What say you?

I do not regret getting handguns, they are fun to shoot and when I go to the range I bring multiple guns, and I do conceal to carry from time to time.

So, if Mr. Bad guy comes in to your house, how you going to take out the trash?

Who on this board has the gigantic knife and plans to slit someone's throat? Just asking for a friend.

I have two AR-15’s, a .45ACP Kimber 1911, a .40 glock. A .22 rifle and a .22 pistol. I have thought that I should add a shotgun for home defense but haven’t yet.

If somebody is 10 feet away from me in the dark I think the shotgun is the best answer.

Probably the shotgun. But, if you have kids and keep the guns locked up, the factor that may be most important is which can you access the fastest. E.g., will it be quicker to have a handgun safe attached to the back of your headboard that you can quickly type in a combination and pull out the handgun? Perhaps something similar could be used for the shotgun, or maybe a trigger lock?

Shotgun for home defense. I have a Winchester 1300 Defender for that purpose. Very reliable and holds up to 8 shells, depending on the shell size. I also own a short barrel shotgun (Serbu Super Shorty) for "travel." Think 12 gauge shotgun power in a very compact easily concealed size, good for hotel rooms. Fits in any luggage I use. It's a class 3 but was only $5 for the tax stamp since it's classified as AOW.

I own several handguns. I carry my Glock 27 Gen 4 or my S&W Airweight .38 revolver as a conceal carry. My wife carries her Glock 27 Gen 4.

The other handguns are standard fare collected throughout the years, including a commemorative 1911 that I won't ever shoot.

I own 2 complete ARs but have an additional lower and several uppers that I built but haven't done anything with. One of the uppers is a .50 Beowolf that can be placed on any of my lowers. I just haven't gotten around to shooting it yet and it isn't practical for most things. Complete novelty purchase.

I have a Ruger 10-22 for plinking.

These days I only shoot to keep the shooting skills sharp. I don't currently have the time to shoot much for leisure. Lucky for me I can use the local law enforcement range for the necessary shooting.

You have some nice guns.

We have 2 9MM Pistols, Glock 19 and a Kahr (my wife uses the Kahr, really small and fits her hand, single stack like all Kahr's)

Ruger pistol - (SR22 - .22LR)

Glock 42 (.380 Auto) - Really small, I can have this in my front pocket and not everyone would notice it.

My AR is a Smith & Wesson M&P15-22

12 gauge Beretta Outlander Synthetic - Semi-automatic-Hunting and skeet gun, entry level shotgun, cycles every time.

12 gauge Remington 879 Express home defense pump action.

Nothing fancy but I have been happy with all of my purchases.

Dang, we have some people on this board that have a diverse collection.

So as far as shotguns go, do you guys like your 12 gauge or something more maneuverable like a 20 gauge?

I keep the Serbu Super Shorty gauge in my nightstand drawer just in case...

I have shot both. The home self defense shotgun I have is as short as you can go legally. I have much more shooting time behind my Outlander 12 gauge then the self defense. For me, not that big of a difference between the 12 gauge and 20 gauge. I think for a women that is smaller, a 20 gauge might be a better option. With the guns you have, I would think you would be happy with a 12 gauge. If you plan to let the wife use the shotgun, 20 gauge might be better.

Dang man. Let me introduce you to my little friend. LOL.
Total length is 16.5 inches. I can put it under my leg while sitting in my car and you'd never know it was there. Bought it to have inconspicuous 12 gauge power when I travel.

They recently came out with a magazine feed for them. I won't get one but you can use magazines that fit the Saiga line of shotguns. Kind of ridiculous actually.

Of course I'll throw in the shotgun on my wish list. Don't think the wife will allow me to purchase one, but if you're looking for the ultimate in 12 gauge home defense, the Standard Manufacturing DP 12 double barrel pump shotgun is the gun for you. The guy in the YouTube video obviously has a lot of spare cash laying around...

Shotguns and rifles are in the gun safe. Have a bio safe that’s much easier to get into that has a Ruger 9mm in it. I’d use that. Less clean up than a shotgun.

I own 2 hand guns. Both Smith and Wesson 9mm M&P. One is a full frame, the other a shield for concealed carry.

I have 3 shotguns, neither really for home defense. A browning 12 gauge over/under and a Browning pump 20 gauge. And a bolt action 410 with a 3 round magazine. (my grandfathers)

My rifles:
LWRC 6.8mm A5. Beautiful firearm. Multiple 30 round magazines. Still awaiting my approval for my Socom suppressor.
Parker Hale 30-06. Bolt Action hunting rifle. Kicks like a mule.
Winchester lever action 22.
Remington semi-auto 22 (my grandfathers)

I keep my handguns in a finger print safe in the nightstand. They are my home protection selection.

This gun with 00 buckshot could do as much damage as the AR did last week.

I have a 12 gauge shotgun with low-recoil rounds so my wife can also fire it without issue. Browning .22 rifle for hunting that I got from my grandfather as a 16th birthday present.
