Gun control proposal

I've never understood why we have varying definitions of ages of adulthood. Driving at 16 (younger in some states, older in others), Alcohol at 21, Voting and military service at 18. 17 for "R" rated movies. 16 (in most states) for age of sexual consent. 18 for some firearms, 21 for others. Etc...

Mandatory national minimum legal alcohol consumption age of 21 is one of the dumber ideas to come down the pike.

You must be 25 in order to purchase a firearm. In conjunction with that, you must also be 25 to vote, drink, do recreational drugs. (Basically be an adult)
The only exception to this is if you join the military; you can do all of that if you are below 25.

I like the voting, buying a gun and drug idea....I think the drinking age should be 12-14. I had my first beer in the sixth grade with my dad. I was told by my parents that I could drink whenever or basically as much as I wanted with them. Every now and then I would have a little beer or wine with them. When I got to high school and saw my peers acting like complete dumb*sses at parties in regards to alcohol I wanted no part of it because the novelty had worn off years ago for me. Our drinking laws are stupid. The German model is much better.

My recommendation for Republicans: Introduce a bill called SAFE. Securing America’s Freedoms for Everyone.

Bill would protect rights to own guns and voting rights. Bill would also protect against bad use of both.

Guns: Bill would ban, or provide extreme vetting, for assault rifles. Bill would require ID for all gun purchases. Bill would eliminate people with felony conviction from purchase. Bill would prohibit non-citizens from gun purchase.

Voting: Bill would require ID to vote. Bill would eliminate people with felony conviction from voting. Bill would strictly and proactively prohibit non-citizens from voting.

When I was in the Navy it was made clear to us that we had to abide by the drinking age of the state where we were stationed, including on base. At the time, California was 21 and many of us were not. I had plenty of beer in the enlisted club at Camp Pendleton before the age of 21. I also bought many beers at San Diego Padres baseball games. Maybe it was the uniform.

I've done the same thing in my household. Maybe the law should be written so that parental supervision required for our scenario and it would be legal? Just spit-balling here.

Do you mean Assault Rifles as in automatic weapons or are you referring to semi-automatic weapons. If semi-automatic, that would include most guns. What would you consider extreme vetting?

ID is already required for all purchases. Are you referring to individuals selling guns to other individuals? Friend to friend?

Most felons are not allowed to purchase. Exceptions being white collar crimes.

Non citizens cannot purchase weapons in the US with a few exceptions.

Under the Brady Act, NO felons are allowed to purchase or possess a firearm that has been in the stream of interstate commerce.

That is the law in a handful of states. But I think the lowest age is 18 even then.

we’ve had constitutional debates
(which i’ve enjoyed) age propsals etc

when i’m drinking coffee with my gun toting nra buddies, we had the planes didn’t kill people cars didn’t kill people discussions

i put it like this

i don’t know the answers

but that kid didn’t need the right to buy an
ar-15 period.

that kid should have brought an ar-15 to the counter and someone should have been able to give him the mutombo

That kid was 18 and legally an adult.
