Remember when George Bush won the Republican nomination and the media and punditry assured us he did not have the necessary gravitas to be president? Then he tapped Dick Cheney to be his VP and those same people breathed a sigh of relief because now there would be an adult in the room when tough decisions had to be made. Cheney, we were assured, brought gravitas to the ticket, so now Bush would be a formidable contestant. (Ignore that now Dick Cheney is regarded, rightly so IMO, as a war mongering neocon that should never have been trusted.)
So today look at the Democratic field and tell me where you see gravitas. Warren? Booker? Harris? Don’t make me laugh! Biden? A walking, talking clusterf__k of a gaffe machine. Sanders? The only thing he brings to the table is idiotic economic theory and tousled hair. Castro? Nah. Buttelige (sp?)? Looks like the “What, me worry?” character from Mad Magazine.
No, from that group there is only one person that carries herself with self assurance, dignity and a willingness to separate herself from the crowd, a person oozing with gravitas. Will the voters in the Democratic primaries recognize her in time? It’s going to be interesting to see.
