Two part question.....

What's the general consensus on how good you need to be to get a return on investment for a laser rangefinder? Any recommendations? They seem to be all over the map when it comes to pricing? How much am I paying for brand/popularity?

I've been using SkyDroid to log scorecards and track stats for several years. Looks like the makers have shifted development to an entirely new app so I thought I'd get some opinions on other options out there as well. What are you using, pros & cons, etc?

I've used the swing by swing app in the past. Last time I used it the premium part( I think they call it looper) had windage estimates from the closest weather station located close to where you was playing and also adjustment estimations to the yardage to center of green based off of elevation changes. Wasn't 100% accurate but would get you in the ball park. I also like the scorecard and Stat/yardage tracker on it

I downloaded SxS last night with several others. Unfortunately, it's a little hard to get a feel for them without being on the course.

How's it's power management?

That's the one negative it sucks the power. It's the only one I've used so I don't know if it's better or worse than any others. I always had it on high and my screen brightness on high and sometimes Pandora going too. I just always made sure I was 90% or more when I started a round and would make it through fine but the battery would be 20-30% after even a slow round stuck behind foursomes who haven't ever heard of playing ready golf to speed things along. I think I had it run all the way down only once and I probably only had a 60% charge that time

The shot tracking to get your avg yardages for each club was really cool I thought. They also have wager tracking if that's your thing too. After you get done with a round you can go on their website and it shows the map of the course and every shot mapped out with your distances for every time you told it to track a shot while playing. Which is really cool to see exactly how far that "monster" drive was or bust your buddy when they start talking about how they bomb their drives 300yds.

It was good enough I paid the yearly subscription to the premium back before I screwed my shoulder up. I think it was 15 or 20 bucks a year for all the bells and whistles. After using it I didn't think the yardage watches or range finders were worth the money imo. The satellite map let's you see the water hazards or exactly where the green is if it's a course you haven't played much before. I recommended it to my friends and they all started using it too.
