You and this guy are conflating neoconservatism, conservatism, compassionate conservatism, and social conservatism. He then switches between Republican and conservative to make a point, that doesn't hold water. Reaganism was tax cuts, deregulation, increased military spending, and a strong opposition to communism, peace through strength, and family values. Sounds kind of Maga doesn't it.
The twist for Maga is an absolute disdain for amnesty, which Reagan pushed for and received. Reagan's amnesty is a warning to future conservatives that have felt like this amnesty was a failed policy which it was. It also is more of a concession to liberal ideas than a bow to conservatism.
You would do well to expand your knowledge of conservatism beyond what Bush and Cheney have told you that it is. The term Rino has been around since before Maga was even a thing. It's also meant to highlight republicans who throw away conservative ideas to compromise with the left. The reason it seems like Maga is picking on the Lincoln project side of the republican party, is because these republicans did just that.
In this guy's case he attempts to say that Trump or Maga on climate change, COVID-19, election integrity is all misinformation or a conspiracy theory. The problem with that is we are all out of theories.
In the end I found the guy to have a poor understanding of what he was trying to convey. He is looking for anything that will try to back up how the swamp republicans look at the Maga republicans. He is definitely anti-Maga at the least, and Lincoln project at the worst.
You still didn't explain why you think he is right.

I didn’t read the link, but I did read your reply and found it to be informative. I don’t think there’s any doubt that DJT is the face of the Republican Party when even weak-kneed limp wristed betrayers of true conservatism like Ted Cruz, who is so anxious to remain “relevant” so Fox News lets him be on their network, and who was repeatedly abused and humiliated by Trump in 2016, fall all over themselves to be on the MAGA bandwagon. Trump is MAGA and MAGA is the Republican Party in 2024. Even when newcomers like Vivek Ramaswamy try to wrest the mantel away from him they get rejected by Trump’s faithful. Even when rumors abound that Trump will name Haley, who is the opposite of everything MAGA, to be his running mate, it is well understood that Trump’s faithful will forgive him and accept it because they are convinced he knows best, he always knows what’s best for them. We saw that in comments right here on this board. (Thank God he seems to have nuked those rumors lately.). So as hard as it is for many of you to see Clinton’s chart, the sad fact is it hits very close to home.
Now the truth is Trump is nothing like the Democrats and their media allies want us to think he is, he’s not the fascist authoritarian monster that will take away everything we hold precious. But he’s also not what most MAGA sycophants think he is either. He is decidedly *not* a conservative. A true conservative, one whose primary political principle centers around advocacy of small government, would *never* come anywhere near mercantilism, protectionism, nationalism, unilaterally imposed sanctions, tariffs, and would *never* initiate trade wars with the rest of the world including our most coveted allies. Trump is and advocates for all of that, and will do it again when he gets reelected. So no one should kid themselves that they support Trump because of his conservative values. Neither he nor MAGA are conservative in the traditional sense of small government providing safe harbor for free market values. Trump and MAGA encourage big government interference in society. You should know that when you vote for him and cheer when he wins.

Trump’s tariffs had nothing but serious negative effect on our economy, had no impact on the trade deficit, in fact they made it worse, contrary to his insistence it would reduce it, caused an immediate negative impact on many American industries who had to scramble to find alternative components from other more expensive suppliers (which caused prices to American consumers of those products to rise), forced hundreds of American farmers in the midwest into bankruptcy (which he stunningly thanked those proud patriotic farmers for their sacrifice). What he did was 100% contrary from every known conservative economic value. Support him if you want, I know you will, but for the love of God don’t call him a conservative. In this instance he is a weak imitation of Mussolini, and he will set a precedent that will eventually lead to the complete destruction of every economic free market value that made this country special.
I do find it interesting you bash Trump for Chinese Trade Tariffs but rarely, if ever, bash Biden for keeping them in place.
There’s a good reason for that. In the first place if you haven’t figured out over the years that I despise Biden with a white hot hatred (that you can’t match) that’s on you and your inability to comprehend. But beyond that I see no point in feeding the wolves on this board, adding one more echo to the echo chamber it has become. It used to be fun to cross swords with the tiny handful of leftists and Democrats. But you have managed to chase them away with your fatuous inanities as you repeat the talking points you’ve heard on your favorite media outlets, and once that had bern challenged you resorted to your tried and true method of besmirching the character of your opponent. I think they finally got fed up with your triviality. And when I say “you” I mean the predominately OU contingent that destroyed their own board and jumped over here to do the same thing. FYI you might be missing that the leftists are just getting their butts handed to them with Biden. They might have had a better time when lefty candidates were not so hard to defend. Today, defending Biden is like trying to defend Stalin.

Yes, I hesitated when I said he is not a fascist, but said it thinking you would know I was meaning he’s not a Nazi fascist. I’m quite aware of who and what Mussolini was - he made the trains run on time! - and I think much of Trump’s nationalism and protectionism are very close to the early/original Mussolini. Trump, IMO, is not a full scale fascist, I would call him a State Capitalist, someone who believes government overlords are morally bound to pick economic winners and losers, and is certain they deserve to be the overlord.
