William Bradford, who was with the Department of Energy, serving as the Director Office of Indian Energy resigned after a number of tweets and social media postings he made about Obama's mother came to light. At first, he claimed his account was "hacked" and that he had never posted the tweets, but that was patently false and the heat was being turned up and he resigned shortly after he started drawing attention.

But that's not the reason I have a beef with the guy. Slimy farker, while serving on the faculty at Univ of Indiana Law School posted in his online bio section the following: Claimed he had been active duty military serving in the US Army from 1994 - 2001. Moreover, he claimed he had been a Major serving in Special Forces and had earned a Silver Star for combat related heroism during the 1st Gulf War. (I'm sure some of you more sharp-eyed types already see a significant problem with his claims.) He often wore a silver star ribbon on his suit jacket and was known for touting it during his classes and lectures.

There was a Retired Army Colonel who read an interview with him published in the Indianapolis Star and contacted the paper with his doubts about Bradford's claims. The Star requested Bradford's service records and had the Col go over them. Turns out, it was all BS! Bradford had only ever served in the US Army Reserves (had never been activated for duty), had never served overseas, had never won ANY combat related medals and had been discharged as a 2nd Lieutenant. (Yep, the Gulf War ended in January, 1991, so how could he have served there in combat or won a Silver Star, when by his own account he didn't enter the Army until 1994?) He was forced out shortly after, being outed for lying about his military service.

He was hired briefly by West Point to teach a class in Contract Law, but got booted not long after for a paper he had published with drew fire and then during that period, they discovered his history of STOLEN VALOR!

How in the hell he got hired in the first place will remain a mystery, but it's pretty clear that the guy shouldn't have ever been hired.

First Gulf War was before 1994. Maybe he meant Bosnia...cough, cough.

what are you talking about...he fits in with most of them!

In his interview with the Star, he said he earned it in the First Gulf War. I think that's what drew the retired Col's attention.

dude is garbage

Read "Stolen Valor," which deals with this subject throughly.

I consider someone who lies about a combat record, for person gain, the worst type of vermin on the planet.

My dad was in the Kansas National Guard during Vietnam, which was never activated so he never went overseas. One of his best friends (Bill) through high school and beyond was with him while he served and never went to Vietnam either.

About 10 years ago Bill died and at his funeral, Bill's girlfriend (at the time) was asking my dad about all these stories from Vietnam that Bill had told her about and how he had earned this medal or that commendation he had received and even asked if he'd be willing to speak as a long time friend who was in Vietnam with Bill. He had accumulated a ton of medals over the years, apparently at pawn shops, etc... None of which he actually earned.

Some people will do a lot of things for admiration and respect.

Did he drop the truth bomb on her?

He did not. I think his logic was that the man's funeral wasn't the best time for that bomb. But, it would be hard not to, I'm sure. I think my dad just fibbed and said he didn't feel comfortable talking about it.

That is an honorable thing to do in my opinion. At that point, it would only hurt the loved ones.

This thread kind of (barely) touches on a subject that I have been wanting to explore on here.

What percentage of the government workforce is not elected and somewhat difficult to fire, regardless of the their actions?

I'd guess 99.9%. Only the very highest positions are elected. Just look at your local governments. You may elect your county sheriff, but he (or she) hires the deputies, support staff, etc. Its worth noting that there are really 3 types of government workers: Elected (mayor, president, etc), appointed (Defined position appointed by an elected official, like Secretary of State), and regular employee. These are the every day bureaucrats who generally benefit from the unionization of their jobs making them nearly impossible to fire or replace.
