I know, I know, Trump broke all the rules toward winning the Republican nomination, but isn't relying on being able to break all the rules a very risky path?

Not to mention, he seems to lack any strategic vision at all. In this WaPo article, he has personally requested the RNC put up offices in every state. This after already being in a fundraising deficit. Why bother with Oklahoma or Massachusetts? Meanwhile, he's letting a state like Colorado, which broke late for Obama, go to Hillary already. So now she can try to put other states into play. I guess that doesn't matter when you aren't honing in on the things that get you a win, but if you were a normal candidate, wouldn't having to defend states that have been pretty reliably republican be a bad thing?

To me, this is worse than consistently having his foot in his mouth. He's supposed to be a business titan, but he can't get this organization to do the things it needs to win.

In the course of dissecting this election, I think you are right. Trump's biggest failings will be more related to not understanding the basics of electioneering more so than his foot in mouth disease.

For such a smart guy, how could be not know he needed a Rove type to be successful.

He's barely trailing Hillary in Florida and within the next two weeks will open up 20 campaign offices there. He only has one office there now. He'll do the same in Ohio and PA too. He's set the groundwork for his campaign and in the next two weeks his grassroots effort and tv commercials should start.

At this point, no matter what he does, it is playing catch up. There is still time, but man is he far behind what other campaigns have done in Florida and other places. It is just hard to see a campaign that prided itself on not needing a ground game being able to get a competent one together. Maybe he won't need it, but I would want it just in case.

September 26 is the date of the first debate, I believe. I wonder how much debate prep he's getting in nowadays.

Two weeks later and Trump is still at one Florida field office. Don't you need people out there proselytizing for your cult of personality?
