Game of Thrones spin-off(s) in development

The pony hasn't even reached the barn yet though.

No one has even produced a satisfactory end to the story they're telling now.

Agreed. I know the ratings have been through the roof, but let's see how they do with the last 13 episodes before we start counting down the days to the spin off.

With that said, I can promise that I will watch if they do put something together.

Sure, I'll probably watch an episode, and I'll stick with it if it's good.

The well is nearly dry though, and someone else will produce the Wheel or Mistborn or something else brilliant in the genre that is completely unlined by visual media while they're trying to get us excited about Dunk and Egg, and we'll already know who Dunk and Egg are or that Robert's still probably going to win the Rebellion (and still get himself killed by a boar).

1) ancient Valyria
2) prelude to Robert's Rebellion and/or timeframe of Dunk and Egg
3) true sequel once episode 8 wraps
4) history of Free Cities and slave cities?

I hope they don't touch Valyria, it's something that is so wrapped in mystery and I hope it stays that way.

Someone on reddit suggested a Marco Polo type mini series where the show follows an explorer that visits all the different free cities and other lands.

I think Dunk and Egg and Robert's rebellions are a slam dunk (no pun).

My votes:

1.) Dunk and Egg
2.) Robert's Rebellion
3.) Blackfyre Rebellion
4.) Dance of Dragons (although this would probably be pretty expensive).

How about a history of Westeros, where the Valyrians (first men) arrive on Westeros to find it inhabited by giants, children of the forest, etc?

Valyrians aren't the first men. Valyria was founded about 7,000 years after the arrival of the first men in Westeros. They supposedly came from the area that is now the Dothraki Sea.

You are right. Now that you mention it, I remember Valyrians first came to Westeros and landed on Dragonstone. They brought dragons with them and used them to conquer Westeros, but men were already there.

In any case, the arrival of the first men would be interesting to see, but it would also require a huge CGI budget (as would the arrival of the Valyrians).

Yeah, it would.

The First Men and the Andals (and the Rhoynar of however it's spelled) were all in Westeros already when the Targaryens arrived.

The Andal migration was probably because of the Valaryians.

So GRRM said that the new series will not involve any characters from the current GOT show saying it's not a spin off if it doesn't have a character from the current show. He also said that none of them will be about what happens AFTER GOT.

He also dropped a little hint saying that by the end of the books we will "know everything about Roberts rebellion" .

*edit*
Oh and that there is a 5th script being developed. He also reminded everyone that just because 5 scripts are being made does not mean that all are going to be made into pilots let alone a full series.

I read that yesterday. I thought I read that all 5 scripts are "prequels". No Dunk and Egg tales either, because he wants to write about 7 more stories about them.

He also revealed that he is still working on WOW, so that almost assuredly means we don't see it before 2018.

Anyone want to wager on his completion of the entire ASOIAF series PLUS 7 more novelets? Plus consulting on new HBO scripts?

It'll be a miracle if he just finishes the core series.
