...apologies for posting MMA stuff here, but it's pretty much the only place I can get serious opinions by the few of us that regularly watch.
First.....what do ya'll see in Johny's future? Personally I can't see a move to 185 if he's serious about another title run. He could probably hang with the bottom half of the top 10, but going up against the likes of Rockhold, Weidman, Souza and Romera is downright frightening. Continuing to cut to 170....and probably cutting weight competitively at a very high level for such a long time....seem to be taking a toll on him. Not an excuse for his last fight....Thompson is a different kind of fighter. It's not out of the realm that Johny could beat him, but it seemingly would take a lot of wrestling, which I think he should utilize more as it's his best weapon. Other than Thompson though, Johny can beat anyone in the top of that division. But they are all killers. Seeing Johny on FB and Twitter and whatnot it's clear he's happiest with family and hunting, fishing, etc. Not that he's burned out, but it wouldn't surprise me much to see a headline stating that he had quit fighting to be a pro bass fisherman. And that's no put down.....what Johny has accomplished over his career is freaking remarkable. It would also be interesting to see him camp with some established MMA gyms. No idea....just curious for some opinions.
And since we are on UFC topic McGreggor vs Diaz WHAT!!?? I've never rooted for Conor. I've grown to be intrigued by the guy. He's absolute money. So far. The big time schedule seems to be getting to him. He seems tired and twitchy. Clearly thrown off verbally by the change of opponent. Ice cold move to tell Diaz to "get comfortable" at 170. And I love Diaz. They make me laugh. I'm rooting for Nate, but it's likely he goes to sleep. 170 is a big weight though....and Nate is long. Nate look rattled at the presser in L.A. He looked hurt that a roomful of Californian's were cheering Conors name. It's funny that the original fight was champ vs champ legitimate super fight and this seems to have over shadowed it. How does that happen? People have been jabbering about super fights for years and years and they never come together. This one did.....and quick. And the replacement fight feels like a bigger fight. Simply amazing.
Fight game is changing. These fighters like Thompson, McGreggor, Northcutt, Aaron Pico....they have grown up training multiple disciplines. It's fun to watch.....gonna get crazy.
