A former University of Oklahoma student is seeking a class action lawsuit against her former school for submitting false information in an effort to boost rankings in U.S. News & World Report.

The plaintiff, Elani Gretzer, filed the lawsuit in Oklahoma City federal court on behalf of herself and "others similarly situated."

The lawsuit against the University of Oklahoma board of regents alleges breach of contract and unjust enrichment stemming from false rankings by the U.S. News & World Report, which were based on data reported by OU.

U.S. News & World Report stripped OU of its ranking as a top 100 university in the nation, public or private, citing incorrect information provided about alumni giving. The magazine annually publishes rankings for more than 11,500 schools and hundreds of individual programs as part of its "Best College Rankings."

U.S. News reported that OU had been supplying incorrect data since 1999.

Gretzer enrolled at OU's Price College of Business in 2016. She alleges in the lawsuit that the college's No. 45 ranking by U.S. News & World Report for best undergraduate program factored into her decision to enroll at OU. She has since left OU, enrolling at the University of Houston.

The rankings are based largely on data provided by the universities, such as graduation rates, class sizes and standardized test scores of students, according to U.S. News.

Because of "The University of Oklahoma's misreporting of data to education ranking organizations over the past 20 years, (the) plaintiff and members of the Class have sustained actual pecuniary injury and damages," the lawsuit alleges.

The lawsuit identifies other potential plaintiffs as "individuals who enrolled in the University of Oklahoma undergraduate degree programs between 1999 and the present." Gretzer seeks $5 million in damages on behalf of all individuals fitting that description.

When originally deemed a top 100 university, former OU President David Boren, who retired in June of 2018, said the ranking validated the hard work and dedication of all members of the OU family.

"The recognition marks a truly historic moment for the university," Boren said. "It confirms the high quality of education and standard of excellence that have become synonymous with the University of Oklahoma."

It’s one of an infinite number of symptoms of the liberal pathogen that has terminally infected public universities and now spreading to private universities.

Everything is relative. Your “right vs. wrong” isn’t my “right vs. wrong”. So lying is perfectly acceptable since there is no longer a moral standard.

I would sleep like a baby tonight if fire rained down on these institutions, who daily lie about much more severe things than these bogus college rankings.

I agree...never thought the day would come that I would look down on Universities for being the thought control police.
