I see where everyone that I trust on here his excited about his signing, so if they are happy I'm happy. Since I'm not in OK anymore I admit I don't keep up with recruiting as much. So where does Fix rank as far as recent recruits/expectations?

As highly regarded and as high of expectations as any in recent memory.

Wow, that's pretty good company. Well this makes me real happy. I want to win in every sport but wrestling more than others.

I know that Marstellar was the number one recruit the year we signed him, but I would think that the coaches thought there could be some issues. Fix is from a very supportive family and he will be a true asset to the university and the program.

I did see that Chance was wrestling at an open tournament already this years so hopefully he gets things going in the right direction.

This goes way back, but I am going to say Dave Schultz was the biggest recruit and caused the most excitement for OSU.

Schultz was beating NCAA champions while he was in high school, if I remember correctly. Didn't he beat Chuck Yagla while Dave was in high school and Yagla was a senior in college?

I agree that Dave Schultz was a very big recruit. Hendricks turned out to be great but at the time he was a replacement for the one that went to Iowa. I think Fix ranks up there with Schultz and Hendricks. How he turns out in college is yet to be seen. However in terms of future recruiting he is head and shoulders above those two due to he and his dad's connections to future recruits. His parents and I mean both parents will be excellent recruiting tools for OK State.

I can tell you right now that Hendricks was recruited as a replacement for no one. Who is "the one who went to Iowa" anyway?

If your talking about Perry that's not right. I apologize in advance if that's not who you were referencing. Hendricks beat Perry in the Fargo finals the year before I believe. John signed Hendricks before Perry ever committed to Iowa. Perry wanted to come to Oklahoma State until he felt behaved by his uncle.[/QUOTE]

I agree; the way I remember it, Perry went to Iowa because of Hendricks. This is reinforced by Hendricks 5th in 03-04 freshman year (after red-shirt) and Perry 2nd in 04-05 frosh yr (lost to Hendricks).

Forgive the wording of my previous post. I agree Hendricks was not a "replacement" for Perry. I do not know why Perry went to Iowa. I do know that from my recollection at the time that it came down to OSU and OU for Johny and while his dad was an OU fan at the time he saw in John and the OSU program the better choice. Sitout became a strong supporter of the OSU wrestling program and we benefited greatly by having Johny and his family in the program. Sitout who rarely posts any more can better comment on this. Again, old number nine is correct Johny was not a replacement for Perry and proved that by his career.

Oberebo can't

Oberebo doesn't even remember what happen yesterday.:)

Perry left for Blair and never really came back home. I almost cried with him when he finally took down his nemesis in the Finals. One of my favorite matches ever

I'll give to you from a non Cowboy perspective...this is big. He is athletic, technical, and a scrapper. All three are needed to be a wrestler to remember IMO.

I will do my best to explain how Schultz ended up at OU. Schultz transferred to UCLA to wrestle with his younger brother Mark Schultz (who did not have much wrestling experience). I think they both wrestled at UCLA or maybe one or the other redshirted. UCLA terminated their wrestling program and they both transferred to OU.
Can someone explain to me why Schultz went to OU? It was before my time.

In 78-79 Dave redshirted, Mark wrestled and went to the NCAA where he was 0-1. They transferred to OU in 79-80, Mark redshirted and Dave lost a year (why was that if UCLA drop wrestling?). In 80-81, Ricky Stewart avenged his earlier loss to Dave by pinning him in the NCAA finals. Mark won his first of three NCAA's beating Mike Sheets along the way thus pulling him (Sheets) into the cons where he finished 7th as a Frosh.
