One of the main premises that keeps this board active. Also, another reason I've hit the brakes and have a couple people on ignore.

I am in favor of local control but against cow-towing to the hotel lobby and extreme taxes on visitors. And, of course, I'm for free enterprise.

I agree. Take the reins off local government and let them be themselves. That is the best way for like minded people to find their niche and not spend their time trying to change people at the federal level. Good for Austin, stick it to whoever you want. I wasn't going to live or visit there anyway.

Actually it isn't a good point. Nobody who advocates for more local control believes that local authorities should have unfettered control over citizens' lives. And conversely, it is quite possible to criticize local government entities' actions without actually questioning their authority to do such dumb as sh!t stuff.
