Finally watched Christmas Vacation...

It's low brow comedy. If you go in with a lot of expectations you are probably going to be disappointed.
So many of my coworkers and friends said it was the best movie ever, I just wasn't seeing it. It has a few chuckles, but that is about it. Also, is Randy Quaid a drunkard in every movie!?

Best movie ever is an way overstatement. Its an movie you watch at 10:00 at night while drinking beer because you've got nothing else to do. As for Randy I don't think its limited to the movies. He's a one bit guy Dumb and drunk but hey when I was 16 he took Cybil Shepherd to the naked swimming party so he'll always have at place on my favorite actor list.

Funny movie, maybe a 7 on a scale of 1-10. Blazing Saddles is one of the best, if not best ever.
Rare is the movie that still holds up 20+ years after it was released. IMO, it is even harder for comedies to hold up to scrutiny. There are a few, but not many.
GTFO. Not only is it the best Christmas movie it's the best movie. I quote it all year round and no one ever catches on.
I have an uncle who has a really great sense of humor (they all do) but he has a real good laugh/chuckle that is very contagious. Watching the squirrel scene with him is an experience in itself. I'll see him in July and he will say "you taught me everything I know
About external illumination." I've heard my kids when they are playing say "then why is the carpet all wet Todd?" "I don't know Margo!" My family is weird.

We watch it every year on Christmas Eve. Tradition in our family for at least 15 years. Kids come home from college now and we still watch. Always giggle at the same scenes. We all have a deal that we don't watch it any other time in the year. Sure, it's slap stick comedy but there is a ton of often quoted lines. Cousin Eddie is hard to beat.
