I remember when Holder was hired many on the board were very critical of Holder for not having a tight relationship with Eddie, saying things like Holder was envious ect. I think the last few days have shown that we (myself included) gave Holder a little too much Hell. Fact is that Gundy all but had the job after the Koetter fiasco in '00, but when all was said and done Eddie is the one who overruled the initial decision( which THANK GOD we hired Miles at that time.
Sadly I think the reason Eddie did that is not because Miles was best for OSU at the time(which he was) but because Eddie wouldnt let a significant hire happen in our AD without his Rubber Stamp.
My point is this. Eddie Sutton cares about one thing: Eddie Sutton. His wife threatened to divorce him if he ever coached again so what does he do?? He takes a job on the West Coast at a school he has never even seen much less has a connection to. He is given this job at the expense of another coach who recruited, trained, and became a role model to the Young men on that team. He also sold his soul to the Pump Brothers to get the job, who at best are shady AAU affiliates and at worst have ties to organized crime.
Why did he do this?? for two more damn wins. He left his wife, children, grandchildren, and his promise of a new rehab center for two more f'n wins.
Now the rehab and counseling center is dead, He is trashing his alma mater on a Sooner radio station, and he is crippling his very own flesh and blood's chances of succeeding at his dream job. Great man I tell you.
I stand by the statement that we should take his damn signature off the court. He is an embarrasment. Any man who will throw his own son to the wolves and steal a job from another coach who has his own goals and dreams so he can get two more wins is a lousy human being.
When my Kids ask me about Eddie I will tell them the truth. Great Coach, Great Basketball mind, Poor Human Being.
I dont want to hear one more thing about his alchohol problem either. My brother is an alchoholic and he has fallen off the wagon a few times, but he never has crippled his children from reaching their potential and he has never screwed over another human being to feed his own ego.
Eddie is like Fredo. He will always be family but he is dead to me now.
