Obviously, this goes along with my post from yesterday. A few weeks ago, a guy reached out to me via email, wondering about any Eddie memorabilia I had. Things like that occur in my world from time to time. But the difference this time was that the “guy” was Christopher Hunt, who is an award-winning documentary film director based in OKC. Chris had started working on a project to tell Eddie’s story. He released the trailer for the film today:
As you can see, Chris is serious about this. He has the blessing from the Suttons; he’s already interviewed many friends, associates, and former players of Eddie, from OSU, Arkansas, and Kentucky. He thinks there’s a better-than-good chance of ESPN picking up this film to use as a 30 for 30 episode. After he and I sat in my OSU room and talked about where he wants to take this project, I think he can do it, and make it great.
He’s crowd-funding the project. That’s generally the way these kinds of projects get done, I believe. I hope that other OSU fans like me, who want to see this film happen, will pitch in and contribute, and spread the word to other OSU fans who will do the same. No doubt there are some Arkansas and even Kentucky fans who will chip in as well. But if just 2500 OSU fans donate $20 each, then the project is funded. Anything above that just goes to make the production even better.
Eddie Sutton is an OSU treasure, and it’s up to us to get his story out. Just maybe, it can make a difference in his omission from the HOF. I donated and I hope everyone else considers doing the same.
