Easy button for Trump reelection = reefer madness

I really don't care if it's legalized or not, but pretty sad in the scheme of things if this is what it would take.

Legalization of marijuana would be a huge win. This is a very important issue to many Americans. It would also be a giant **** you to big pharma.

Decriminalize and make legal for pharmaceutical purposes. I agree 100% on the pharmaceurical side, you're in pain or in pain and dying, die as comfortable as possible. I also think doctors are a lot like politicians with special interest groups in their back pockets for cash.

That being said, I wouldn't want to do it or have my kids doing it, nothing good comes out of drug and alcohol useage.

I don't understand why it should be a Trump issue. States have legalized below the federal level.

Feds can come in and bust every single one of those "state legal" holders for violation of federal law.

Sessions has advocated doing exactly that.

Also, because it is illegal federally, banks won't do business with state legal growers/dispensaries.

And right here we have a recipe for a real estate boom. Gotta launder all that cash and sellers get giddy over full price cash offers because the transaction is lower risk. Average Joe needs a mortgage... So now a new breed of powerful real estate investor is competing with average Joe trying to buy a 4br/2ba for his growing family.

And my house appreciates 25% in 24 months. Sounds sustainable to me.

The complexity of our economy and modern lives in general leads to all sorts of interesting consequences and side effects when large policy changes are enacted.

For the record, I'm not really for or against legalization in a general sense. I strongly believe it's a State issue and the Feds should not be involved (I don't see this as the same thing as legalization, but whatever). And I'm definitely not opposed in any way to medical marijuana.

Ironic since, until recently, the government was/is one of the biggest suppliers of opiod medicines. The VA among others was/is one of the largest "pushers" of opoids.

100% backing legalization, especially for medical .. fast track that federally

Couple things
  • even if it is passes for recreation there will be an age limit so kids are not just going to have a free pass to smoke whenever .. of course, anyone would be naive to think kids don't get alcohol and tobacco products now. So will it really be any more of an issue than current?
  • driving while impaired .. anyone understand how this is being handled in legal areas?
  • employer drug tests .. anyone understand how this is being handled in legal areas?
Does anyone even think that by the time it is passed federally it will be so screwed up by the government that everyone will hate it and big pharm just moves their pie from opioid pie to maryjane pie? They are going to screw this up, right?

Between this and continued good news re: immigration, jobs, economy etc. a lot of dumb stuff could be forgiven if he's smart enough to do it.

The good news on most of those issues has nothing to do with anything Trump has done.

With that said, I'd fully support an effort to legalize and decriminalize marijuana (as well as a complete rejection of the "war on drugs" approach).

I highly doubt Trump does it though. Would upset a good portion of his base and he can't afford that right now.

Okay. Here's a contrary, 8 ball-blindfolded-off-3-rails, in-the-corner-pocket, what if, prediction because it kind of makes sense:

What if Biff uses marijuana to justify firing Beauregard, XIV? Biff would reverse course on weed and fire him on the basis of "policy differences" (i.e. drugs) if it would, 1. Get him closer to firing Mueller, and 2. Would take the steam out of firing Mueller with lots of Biff's enemies. Enable Moscow West or legalize weed? Lots of people would pause at that trade-off.

Biff needs all the popular support he can get outside of his base. His base will think whatever he or their preacher tells them to think. He needs to "win" and shake something up and so far he hasn't done anything. Pro-liberty, pro business, (good business people can't even use banks!), spin it as making Mexico pay for the wall by saving so much $, etc.

Interesting scenario.

Two problems I see with it. First, I don't see anyone anyone embracing the trade-off. The left isn't going to support Trump firing Mueller just because Trump promises to legalize marijuana. I don't see him getting much support from key congressional Republicans for such a trade-off either.

And secondly, many of those whose support Trump would be seeking by making such a political move still wouldn't support Trump for re-election. For example, I'd support Trump on legalization, but there is no way I'd vote for the guy in 2020.

Could such a move help get his approval ratings out of the gutter? Probably. If that is the sole political goal, ok.

btw, Trump would be committing political suicide to fire Mueller. Such a move would be a major blunder on his part and would most likely eventually lead to a President Pence.

Oh you're right about all of that. But you are thinking logically. Rationally. Think like Biff.

Legalize mj + deport illegals + build the wall + create merit-based immigration system.

I would add no public smoking. Treat it just like alcohol. It would be bad enough if someone lived in an apartment and had the smoke blowing over into their private outdoor area.
