The federal government (president included) has too much power in our lives. The United States implies that the states have independent rights, but as shown time and again, there is very little delineation between the states today due to the power of the central government.
It’s also a question of real power versus imagined power.
Too many people today let whoever the occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue have power over them in their everyday lives. I refuse to let Donald Trump, Barrack Obama, etc influence my day to day life - they can wield real power via the Executive Branch, but I won’t give them the power to control my day to day happiness.
