and I agree about playing guys in the first half, if you can..that was a great point.
Block party
Oral Roberts center Elijah Lufile first tried a jumper, but was blocked by OSU freshman point guard Avery Anderson III.
Not to be deterred, Lufile tried another shot near the basket after corralling the blocked shot. Yor Anei awaited for a block just 5 seconds later.
It was that kind of night for ORU inside the paint Wednesday night during OSU’s season-opening 80-75 victory at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Led by Anei, the Cowboys blocked 12 shots, the most in a single game since 2012. Anei had eight of those, bringing back the block party he started last year.
“I was just trying to block everything at the rim,” Anei said. “I mean, that's my job to protect the rim every game.”
Keylan Boone’s big debut
Through 10 minutes, 11 different players saw the floor. This isn’t last season, that was evident.
Armed with a deeper bench and young talent, Boynton used it. And it became clear that Tulsa Memorial product Keylan Boone was ready.
Boone played just 10:09 off the bench, but scored 11 points and grabbed three rebounds. He also had a steal. He hit 3 of 5 3-pointers.
“He’s got a really, really high skill package,” Boynton said.
Anderson also shined in nearly 12 minutes with five points, two steals, a block and an assist.
Boynton said he strategically showed off the Cowboys’ depth early.
“These type games, I like to get everybody in, in the first half,” Boynton said. “I think just my formerwplayer self, if you don’t play in the first half, it’s really hard to stay engaged. Then you’re needed in the second half or some situation comes up, you may not be where you need to be mentally.”
