Does This Sentiment No Longer Apply?

Do you support Russians purchasing Maltese passports and traveling here without a visa?

I still see a gain. Start there and then add legals. Your break is over, the dinner rush is starting soon.

Can we at least be intellectually honest about legal vs illegal immigration? Or why the establishment corporatists want slave labor and the progressives want votes?

Conflating the Mexican border chaos with the idealic Ellis Island process is ridiculous.

Great response MEGA!

I can also assure you that those coming through Ellis Island didn't get government benefits in the billions, schools didn't slow down their lessons for the kids that didn't know English and everyone was expected to assimilate.

The government also suspended all legal immigration for some time (think it was 1923 to 47 or 48 sorry dates are fuzzy) so everyone already here could assimilate.

OK, so If I understand the responses so far this is what is needed: 1) Repatriate every last person who is here illegally, including the over 50% who are here because they overstayed their visas; 2) Abolish all “welfare” for noncitizens; 3) Don’t allow evil corporations to pay immigrants “slave” wages even if the immigrants willingly work for those wages; 4) See to it that immigrants can never vote (I assume that means even if they become citizens, because they would probably vote for Democrats). Have I left anything out?

So if reforms accomplish those criteria then those of you who have responded would gladly welcome with open arms all the people from everywhere in the world who want to come to America into America. As the poem promises you will encourage the tired, the poor, the homeless, the tempest-tossed, you will lift your lamp beside the golden doors. I’m proud of you. You have restored my faith in the goodness of this country.

I agree with all your proposals! Where do we start to get them implemented so the beacon on the statue can once again glow brightly! What’s our plan?

I wonder if you see a philosophical connection, a fundamental principle that applies to those people that say “an illegal immigrant killed an innocent person, therefore if we keep out all illegal immigrants no illegal immigrant will kill any more innocent people,” and those that say “a gun was used to kill innocent people, therefore if we outlaw/confiscate all guns no gun can be used to kill innocent people.” I see a philosophical equivalency in the two statements. Do you?

Good post

I’m posting these tweets by the way, to illustrate my point that the outrage over a border solution (including a wall) is manufactured and fake - not suggesting Dan thinks this way.

No.

I’m in a really weird mood tonight and your response had me laughing so hard I woke up my wife sleeping three rooms away!

Can you explain the philosophical difference between the two statements?
Never mind. I’m old. It’s late. I’m going to bed. It was fun talking with you. Thanks for giving me a good laugh! I know it wasn’t intentionally funny, but for some reason your one word reply nailed my funny bone!
