Was reminded of the principle of Freakanomics....the world runs on incentives.
An example they use is a soccer player kicking a PK in the World Cup....what is the true incentive of the kicker?....for many, it is to NOT look bad rather than to win.
The best % chance for the kicker to make the goal is to kick it down the middle....since the PK is so close to the goal, the goalie has to guess before the ball is kicked to have a chance of blocking it.
So that means most kick it to the side of the goal....knowing that even in the goalie correctly guesses the side of the goal to dive to, even if the player kicks it a bit wide of the goal it is still digestible to fans....because the masses will consider it a great play by the goalie and a good effort by the kicker, even though it missed. Same as if the kicker does kick it in the corner, but the goalie correctly guesses and blocks it.....it is seen as a great effort by both.
But if that kicker kicks it down the middle and it sails over the goal....or worse it is indeed blocked by the goalie that correctly guessed to not move at all....that is seen as a shameful act by the kicker. Soccer fans go nuts over stuff like that, especially internationally.
Just saying it took resolve by the refs to actually call holding by a DL, even if prodded by the OSU staff. Of all the calls refs would take heat on, that seems like a big one....since many fans do not even know that CAN be called!!
Normally do not have much good to say about refs....even when they do a great job, who really notices?...but a tip of the cap to them.
Glad it was called on them and that Pokes won.![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
