A judge ruled Friday evening that Obamacare is unconstitutional, putting the future of the federal healthcare law in jeopardy.

The decision, issued by U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor in the Northern District of Texas — a George W. Bush appointee, is likely to face an appeal.

The suit in the case, Texas v. Azar, was brought by 20 Republican state officials, who have asked that all of Obamacare be thrown out as a consequence of the new tax law, which zeroed out a penalty on the uninsured, known as the "individual mandate." The officials argued that the penalty was central to making the rest of the law work, and that without it, the rest should crumble.

O'Connor appeared to sympathize with this argument in his opinion.

"Congress stated many times unequivocally — through enacted text signed by the president — that the individual mandate is 'essential' to the ACA," he wrote of the Affordable Care Act, the formal name for Obamacare. "And this essentiality, the ACA’s text makes clear, means the mandate must work 'together with the other provisions' for the Act to function as intended."

Well that puts things in limbo. It's going to cause chaos if this is upheld. Maybe it'll force the dysfunctional partisan dipshits in Congress to do something right and work together to fix the abominable ACA for the people and not political parties.

I'm sure Chuck and Nancy will get right on it.

Now the GOP owns this...what are they going to do? They can't agree within their own party what to do, let alone get something done with the Democrats. I am sure the President will get the leaders of both parties together in front of the cameras and act like he is willing to do what it takes, then bash them all three days later....I seem to remember him giving a news conference in the Rose Garden telling everyone how great the new GOP plan was going to be...then three days later bashing it, calling it cruel... .....The GOP is already panicking, Sarah Sander's first statement about this was, "don't worry, nothing will change right away"......I don't have a dog in this fight, one of the benefits of being retired Military is great , free or low cost Health insurance ( or free health care at a Military installation), but seeing what a great country we have, and our citizens having to deal with this is terrible

So what is going to happen with Obama care?
Who knows.......most "experts" are saying that this court decision will probably be overturned on appeal, but, that does not address the fact that the ACA is not very good....... Democrats and Republicans need to come together and get something that helps everyone

The ACA contracts are already set in place through 2019, so this isn’t over by a long shot.

Why? Why is it the government's job to do that? It's their job to get the hell out of the way. That'll fix healthcare more than any law they pass.

You actually think healthcare/pharmaceutical prices would drop without regulation lol. Naive.

Ask people who need epipens about deregulated capitalism.

As I said, With President Trump "celebrating" this court decision, the GOP now owns Health care....The Dems already ran heavy on Health care during the mid terms and did really well. Be interesting to see what the GOP tries to do now

Ludicrous statement. The ACA is still the law of the land - for now. If the courts strike it down, that's on the courts. Not the Repubs.

You trying to give any blame to Repubs for healthcare just reeks of desperate agenda.

it’s tds agenda
normal intelligent people just go stupid

You do realize it was Republican attorneys general who filed this lawsuit, no?

If this stands, the pressure will be on the GOP to fix health care, considering the GOP cannot decide among their own party on how to fix it, it is hard to imagine that they could put anything forward that would have support of both parties.......despite the problems with the ACA, there were some parts of it that were very popular, this decision ( lawsuit initiated by the GOP)got the entire ACA declared unconstitutional...both the unpopular parts and the popular parts

Maybe. It will be appealed to the 5th Circuit which has a much different judicial makeup than the 9th Circuit. They may uphold the ruling.

Yes......and now they own Health care......if they don't fix it, it will be on them, u until now, the GOP put all the blame on the Dems..........
I'm curious what you would consider to be a good fix. Would you please lay out the appropriate government intervention that would cover the needs and health conditions of each individual American? Perhaps Republicans will see your plan and adopt it for their own.

What a ludicrous response. Democrats shoved Obama down at least half of the American people's throats and you want to place blame only on Republicans? It's partisanship positions like this that are causing the divide and making it impossible to get anything done that will benefit anyone but the politicians.
Obamacare was terrible legislation purposely designed to fail in an effort to convince the people to accept single payer healthcare.

otardcare was about socialistic re-distribution of wealth under the guise of healthcare

otard was about regulating small business out of the american economy

o’connors decision that the “individual mandate” is illegal strikes at the very heart
of the idea that the via irs collection the government can force an individual to participate in otardcare.

UK doesn’t care because he has no idea
the very principle of individual rights our forefathers spilled their blood defending was swallowed up while america slept.

oh america woke up when the got the bill in october of 16

people like UK still sleep because otardcare does not affect them, they follow orders are part of a group and the think such place in life entails.

to them otardcare is politics

in no way shape or form is it destruction of american values
