I posted this in another thread, but thought it might generate some additional discussion if it is in a thread of its own. Pretty interesting numbers, IMO.

A lot of talk about our lack of offense (outside the big
2), and I think it is a legitimate concern. But, there are 2 sides to a
bball court, and you can't just focus on the offensive end and ignore
the defense.

KSU scored 47 against OSU. They have averaged 63.2 in other conference games.
ISU scored 63 against OSU. They have averaged 77.5 in other conference games.
UT scored 58 against OSU. They have averaged 65.5 in other conference games.
KU scored 67 against OSU. They have averaged 77.0 in other conference games.
Tech scored 43 against OSU. They have averaged 55.0 in other conference games.

The one outlier...

OU scored 82 against OSU. They have averaged 69.8 in other conference games.

The
point is, If you are going to have an offensively challenged team, you
better play some defense if you want to have a chance to win. I think
Eddie Sutton taught all of us that a team that clamps down on defense
isn't going to get blown out too often. This team came closer to winning
in Ames than any other conference team this season. Those of you
sounding the death knell for this team are premature, IMO.

p.s.
For those of you who still think this is a team that only jacks 3's, you
should be be even more impressed with the defensive splits I posted
above. 3-Jack teams are likely to speed up tempo and give opposing teams
more possessions and more opportunities to score.
