Recently I've been cutting certain things out of my life that I feel might make it a bit better. The next one I'm considering is coffee. Any of you cut coffee out of your life? If so, what were the pros and cons of your experience? TIA.

no negatives but it still smells good. Just another habit gone.

This is my first morning drinking green tea. Not sure how long this will last.

Are you loading your coffee with sugar?

I'm not sure why it would benefit to quit otherwise. Itvactually has health benefits.

No, just creamer. I just feel like it makes me pretty wired during the day. I'm already a guy who's pretty energized most of the day, so I've just been weighing the benefits. One benefit I see is probably a slight drop in blood pressure, but I read one study that says coffee is generally the number one source of antioxidants for many people who drink it. I guess you could say I have mixed feelings about dropping it, or the idea of dropping it.

I believe there is resrarch showing it reduces the chances of or slows the progression of dementia.

Also once a day espresso will help with cleaning the liver. I used to put a bunch of sugar in my coffee then I grew up and only drink it black now. Sugar is the killer when it comes to coffee drinks. Even creamer has a ton of sugar in it.

I've heard the same. I think it has its benefits. To be honest, my feeling is that I enjoy it too much to quit entirely. I could see myself going to one cup a day or a few cups a week. My first day with no coffee feels a bit less jittery, based on initial feelings. I do enjoy the buzz that coffee brings, however.

I'm going to type this slowly..... back away from the keyboard and contact a loved one. Tell them you're having insane thoughts and may need some time away at a nervous hospital. They'll help you address these things and get you back to your right self soon.

I'm sending a $50 Starbucks card for when you get out.

When I go to Starbucks I get the flat white. Man that is an impressive cup of joe. It only has 160 cal in the tall size also. When I am having a bad afternoon I get this with an extra shot of espresso. My personal record for most espresso consumed in a day was 8 shots. Did it by 3pm and it was about the closest I have come to legal coke.

I do tend to take the weekend off with coffee though.

Benefits would probably have to do with acid reflux. If you don't have it I don't see many positives of quitting. I think in general caffeine is not healthy.

A quick google search yields at least some topics for conversation.

Lower blood pressure
Decreased anxiety
Better sleep

Its not exactly accurate to say there is no benefit of quitting coffee.

if you have

high blood pressure and anxiety

which results in

poor sleep habits then it's probably time to re-evaluate your life and the way you live it...

you got bigger problems than a cup of coffee

You might be right, but in this topic we are talking about coffee. I've cut mine down to one cup today (from probably 3-4 usually) and I can tell a difference in the way I feel. I can certainly understand how people can report the benefits mentioned above.

It's obviously a personal choice, the mild pushback you're getting is probably because most people don't experience the negative consequences listed above so can't relate. If it's bothering you, cut back.

kudos

glad you feel different

I'm in my mid 50's and I just started drinking coffee for realz about 4 months ago. I drink about a 16oz cup first thing in the morning. Which is very early. Only on workdays. I think it helps oil the squeaky knees, etc....almost starting to taste ok.
