Curious About Your Thoughts, Davidallen

I don't know if you're following the controversy over Nancy MacLean's new book. This is the most thoughtful response I have found.

Will read further, at my sons fencing class right now, but right off the bat find this comment to be telling:

"The state is a predator and an exploiter, not a cooperative venture for the production of “public goods.”"

How does a predator arise from the collective will of the prey? That analogy, one I have heard many times, simply ignores the origins of/authority of the state itself. As a fan of positive political theory in general you would expect that to be my position. As to MacLean - haven't read it, most of what I have heard is it is a bit over the top on the conspiracy side....

Why did I know that's the one sentence you would hone in on? Read the whole thing. I think there's a lot there you will like.
