What do you own and what are you looking at? I have bitcoin and ethereum.

What are your thoughts on blockchains eliminating a significant number of jobs in the next ten years? It's going to transform the auditing profession.

Also, to make this political, I think at some point, maybe even within the next 30 years, universal income is something that needs to be considered bc technology is going to destroy so many jobs. Thoughts?

None yet. Should have bought when it was less than 100 the first time I heard about them. They have gone up so fast I think I will get another opportunity.

I don't know weather block chain will kill more jobs or automation with self driving cars.

Watch out for an EMP. About the only way I can see the govs of the world controlling cryptocurrency would be to destroy the networks.

I can see universal income in less than 30 years. It is already here to some degree if you want to cut to the chase. Switzerland tried to do it last year. I just hope I can guide my kids to the right professions to be as prosperous as possible.

Opened up a little Scottrade account to trade a little. I can't seem to find anything on ethereum through that account. What am I missing? I'm a novice at this stuff so speak clearly. Thanks.

I use the Coinbase app.

When Donger is looking into it you know you are too late to the party.

If blockchain is really going to change the world, they need to figure out a way to make people excited about it as something other than a vehicle for speculation.

It's hard for people to wrap their heads around it.

Banks will save billions by eleiminating costs. The need for auditors will go down. The need for lawyers will go down. The need for middle men will go down. The need for governence will go down.

It's a libertarian's dream, but for the fact that there will be a trail for everything.

I agree the potential is there, but it is a generation or two away (technological generations, not human lifespan generations). Right now cryptoprecious-metal is more accurate than cryptocurrency. I would say its attractiveness to Libertarians (real Galt's Gulch Libertarians) is part of what is holding it back, due to some of their more retrograde ideas about currency.

Yeah too bad I don't have a real job like an economics professor, or something that would allow me the time to research all the pie charts and graphs so I could make an informed decision in a more timely manner. GTFOH

Sorry dong but when people like you with real jobs start to jump on the band wagon it usually means the bubble is about to pop.

Libertarian nightmare IMO. Gold is the Libertarian wet dream.

As to EMP risk, you would need to disrupt the global network. That happens and verifiable currency is likely the least of your problems.

It provides an opportunity for two parties to transact without a third party being involved. That's a libertarians dream. The downside is that the chain will be out there forever for others to see.

Bitcoin seems to have gone on a tear because of institutional investment and China's we love it today but subject to change tomorrow stance. Getting in at this price point seems really risky. It could certainly continue to rise but the threefold increase in price in a few months smells a bunch like penny stock pump and dump.

I'm no 07pilt or davidallen, but Bitcoin is not something I see as anything but a hardcore gamble that people who have other people's money to lose really like. I did buy a couple quite a few years back as a novelty, but did not make any additional investment because it isn't a functional currency for me and doesn't have the retrograde currency feel as 07pilt described.

I don't own any but I'm sure I will in the future. I think it will be a huge problem for governments to control and more importantly TAX. How do central banks control it or monitor it. How do they prevent exchange.

EMP statement was somewhat tongue-in-cheek but to bring down the entire internet that would be about the only way. And, yes we would all have more to worry about.

If you want to start in the mining gig, look into LBRY currency. It is GPU based and the payout can be ok early as this currency builds. It is about $.55 right now. Seems straight forward to accessing it, I just still don't understand how it is exchanged into USD.
