Could Coleman Scott end up with Olympic Gold?

I think you have to give them both gold medals. They didn't wrestle each other and only lost to guys who are now DQd. You can make arguments for either one to get the gold, but there is no fair way to do it, IMO.

I agree-have been looking for a result if they ever wrestled that year. That would be the most fair way, head to head.

But... UWW (and FILA before them) would move people up in proportion to the half bracket, which is why I put in the last sentence.

Edit; plus, that extra gold looks better :)

Of course, since Kudhikov was already DQd, making Dutt the silver medalist, wouldn't he just move up? :)

I suggest a special wrestle off at the 2017 world championships.

Probably a Dumb question, but why do they have 2 bronze medals? why not just have the 2 bronze medal winners wrestle for the REAL Bronze/3rd.

I know in Boxing they can't fight after being Knocked Out or stopped, not sure about why Wrestling does not let them Wrestle for 3rd, when in high school/college etc. they let people wrestle for place after losing in the same tournament?

Just as Combat athletes are competitors by nature, I am sure MOST (close to all) would rather wrestle for a TRUE Bronze/3rd than sharing it.

I believe it was a reaction to fewer weight classes. It allows for more people to medal.

More people and more countries. Especially with the unbalanced bracket, two bronze medals give the lesser countries a better chance to grab a medal if the bracket falls right and they pull an upset. The IOC loves this and UWW seems to as well. It doesn't fit with the combat mentality of the sport, but it is good marketing at the international level that so many different countries medal each year. I'd rather they wrestled it out (and had full wrestle backs and OT and bigger brackets, etc), but if this helps keep wrestling in the Olympics, it isn't too high a price to pay, IMO.
